People receiving your phone--how is the signal strength?

In dBm (NOT bars) is your signal strength better or worse?

Heh, yeah, I'm guessing it'll take a few days to shake out. I just wanted to get out ahead of it, because it's been such a serious problem in the past.

Nah, I was kind of joking, since simple to get a quick impression of the reception :)

More concerned with people not having the device, but posting fake results. I am bad for being cynical.

Good news is a lot of folks getting the G3 have the low bar (Gnex) and the high bars (Razr and Rezound), so we should be able to get an idea of where the G3 fits with those bars.

Well, in another thread someone said their new GS3 is -89 dbm, so we know it is at least capable of that. Seems like a fairly normal signal strength. Of course, he could be sitting under a tower and then it would be bad lol.

Sitting under a tower would get you bad signal. Tower's don't point their panels downward, that would be a waste of energy and would lower the far away coverage.

Nope, the right hand rule (or left hand in physics) suggest current will result in wrap around in an energy flux from the source, so.... oops that is for in regards to induction and electrical motors. Sorry! ;)

You should still get a good signal, but the point is the signal will be even better up to some point, the further you move away from the tower.

I hope the GS3 is about the same or better then my Rezound, right now in my house it goes anywhere from -76 to -89.

my rezound is at -90 right now and I live in the sticks.. horrible reception inside the house and calls drop sometimes

I live in a fringe area and my Maxx shows 4G=-105dBm. I should have my S3 tomorrow , I will post my signal strength when I get home.

Why is "Coming from a G3 phone" an option? Voice is 3g, data is 4g. If you want to see the difference in download speeds, it would be a valid option. For voice, it just just skews the poll.

I'd like to know how the reception is from a nexus user.. Or even former Samsung charge user. Samsung hasn't been the best in the antenna department in the past. Take your time..

I live in the sticks and reception is key for me too. Both my wife's charge and my OG Inc are around -90 at home.

Yes, I'm sitting on 102, which makes sense since my reception sucks. I am at home so I have Wi-Fi, but my Evo 3D was about as good as my Wi-Fi. I would come home and forget to turn on Wi-Fi with my Evo and a big reason is because I didn't notice it. This will be something I will be monitoring since this could be a deal breaker for me.

Then there is the issue of the OS, since ICS and GB interpret 4G differently.

Best case would be both devices using ICS and in the same place. Anything else would have no real value.

Added:

Another practical point is places you notice one device works and another does not (pretty absolute then).

This is the best way to test these phone. They have to be on the same OS tho first n foremost just to make things alot easier.

I just posted something similar in another thread....lol.

But....if you can get the GS3 on 3G...and look in About Phone/Mobile Network settings or whatever its called....you ....might be able to compare it to phones on GB. I heard ICS phones will show the 1x and 3G at the same time in About Phone area. The RAZR on ICS does...I think the G Nex shows both too.

At work on my DX I'm getting -55 and at home I get about -100.

I can check the work one on Monday. The home one tomorrow.

I own a Galaxy Nexus, should be home around 4:00 today and my S3 will be waiting for me. I will provide results this afternoon.

I never checked the signal on my droidx before activating my s3, but seeing how one is 3g and the other is 4g, I don't think it'd be a good comparison. I'm sitting at -77 now. I'll have to check the signal when I get home though, as it's usually not as good as where I work.
