Phone Auto Scrolling to the Right

very strange. just had an episode where from the main home screen the phone would automatically scroll to the rightmost screen all by itself. turned the phone off and on and it went right back to the auto scrolling. just did the "g-sensor calibration" and it seemed to stop.

incidentally, i've had the phone for a full week as of today and this is the first time this sort of thing has happened. it just so happens that the firmware update was auto-pushed to me this morning. coincidence?

this happened to the phones i was playing with in the verizon store yesterday. i've not read about this problem on any forums, but the in-store display model kept doing this when i was playing with it. must be some kind of bug.

i've had mine mysteriously scroll on it's own. i think something is just a tad to sensitive. not a big deal to me.

scrolling on its own once is one thing. i'm talking about setting the phone on a flat table, hitting the home screen and then over the course of 10-15 seconds the phone ON ITS OWN makes it's way to the rightmost screen. that's without touching it at all.

anyway, since this morning's episode it hasn't happened again

Exact same thing happened to me yesterday.

I had installed "Dropbox" from the app market and soon thereafter, I noticed it'd scroll, untouched, tot he right. As soon as I uninstalled Dropbox, the problem stopped.

Take a look at the last install you performed. That might be the culprit.

well that would royally suck since this morning i installed documents to go after buying it for $5.55 with their "cinco de mayo" sale. that damn thing is like $30 normally

i didnt uninstall anything. it just stopped doing it soon after i calibrated the g-sensor. not sure if its related. i actually have no idea what caused it, but i dont want it to happen again

Had this happen (but to the left) a few nights ago. Solution: battey pull. I came from a BB, so this was my first attempt, and it worked fine. Almost seemed as if the screen got confused, thinking it was constantly being flicked to the side... do a battey pull and be sure to keep your fingers off the screen while it's booting (if it happens again).

I've had this happen MANY TIMES since day 1 (the tuesday before launch). I didn't know about the G-Sensor Calibration, though. Just calibrated and will see if it happens again today.

Congrats on Docs to Go for $5.55. I paid $15 (still not full price, but...crap!). :D

Damn, my phone is still scrolling to the right. G-Sensor calibration did nothing.

I notice this happens most often when either...
1) I'm sitting at my desk with a laptop and external monitor running, or
2) When I'm sitting on my sofa, watching TV in an otherwise dark room.

I logged a complaint with VZW about this problem yesterday. And, I've posted at the HTC forums. We're not alone in having these problems.

Mine was doing the same thing, only worse. It would scroll to the right, then left, then right. It would automatically scroll in other places. Here's what I have found. Wipe off the optical mouse. Mine must have had some dust or other object on it and the light was causing it to move the screen. Wiped it off and all is well.

So much for that "solution."

Shortly after I posted the above, it started the scrolling all by itself yet again. When I get time, I may restore factory settings and re-install all my applications.

It THAT doesn't work, it's back to Best Buy for me. Might turn it in and wait a few days for the Evo.

I can't believe that nobody has found a solution to this nagging problem..

Please let us know how things go after your reset. I kind of doubt a reset will change anything, but I don't want to discourage you. After experiencing the problem myself so many times and hearing from other owners, I'd say that the problem is related to inputs, like light & other energy sources, that aren't being properly filtered out (ignored) by the phone. Maybe a software patch will correct the problem.

I've ordered a replacement. Maybe I'll do a hard reset just for kicks.

I know - for sure - that a soft reset doesn't do a damn thing.

There is nothing you can do to fix this. I have had this happen since day 1.

I have tried everything. I suggest you call it in and get on the waiting list for a replacement since they are all backordered.

I am currently waiting for my replacement Incredible to arrive due to this problem as we speak.

Starting the factory reset right now...

OK...just finished setting it up again. I put absolutely nothing on the phone...no applications, nothing...even skipped the Google/Social accounts setups. Wouldn't you know it...the damned screen rolled to the right all by itself just like before.

Back to Best Buy this afternoon!

I'm going to use my 30-day trial period to return this and sign up for the Evo.

I had this happen today for the first time (Day 9, I think).

TBOLT, I also had it next to my laptop...but I don't know if it's related to that or the fact that it's next to my laptop (or also in your case with lights off) that might have caused you to actually notice it more. Probably happens more than we realize, but doesn't catch our eye.

The only thing different today for me was, it was on my bed, in a non-flat position. The blankets made it tilt to the side. Probably not the cause, though.

I did install like five applications, yesterday. I'm going to see if it self-resolves (since today's first occurrence, though has happened maybe 7 times so far)...if not I'll escalate to uninstalling.

I highly doubt its app related. I had mine do it to me since i unboxed it and was charging it. No apps downloaded at that time. I thought i had somehow touched the screen so i let it pass. It did it a couple more times that night... and everyday since then (about 2 weeks now). I can assure you, it was right out of the box on its initial charge.

Seems to happen more frequently to me when I have woken it up and unlocked it.

Like I said... I wouldn't wait for it to fix itself (if it ever does)... the longer you wait, the longer a replacement will take since they are all backordered. There are also none in my city at any retail stores.

I just got my replacement ordered today... the CSR told me it will be until probably beginning of June before I might see one.
