phone sluggish since some "software update" this morning

I woke at around 5am like I normally do, my Samsung notified me of a software update that was said to take 15 minutes, after the update process, it rebooted and it said "optimizing apps" and ever since my phone has been sluggish and slow, and restarting the device MANY times made no difference!

It could be painful but sometimes it is recommended to do a factory reset before any major firmware update.
