I have an HTC Hero but I am not running the original software, what I have is:

Firmware version
2.1-fresh

Baseband version
2.42.01.04.27

Kernel version
2.6.29-bc0d2cff
htc-kernel@and18-2 #1

Build number
Fresh Rom 2.1 by flipz

Software number
2.27.651.5

For the past few days I've had the "low on space" in my message bar, at first I would delete apps and the icon would go away. Starting on Friday, I believe, the icon would not go away no matter how many things I deleted. Now it seems as though my internal memory is going down by the hour at 12:00Pm CST today I had 13.31MB of internal memory and right now as of 3:06PM CST I have 9.39MB. I am not using the HTC Mail feature, I use Gmail. What can I do before I have no memory left and my phone locks up?!

Go through all of your apps and clear the caches. Close running programs that you're not using. Reboot.

Sent from my CDMA Hero. I got some hot Froyo on Hero action here!

Go to the Marketplace and download an app called "Quick App Clean Cache" - I used that rather than going into the systems settings and doing it manually - saves a few steps and is much easier. :-)

How do you clear the caches.

Menu> settings> applications> manage applications

It's pretty time consuming, there are apps in the market that will clear them quicker.

I had this problem with mine and it kept reoccuring....

I finally figured out that within my "EMAIL", there is a TRASH folder that had 1700 emails in it. When you delete emails, they go into this folder rather than actually deleting them.

This solved all my "storage" space problems.

... oh, and I use a hotmail, fwiw
