You can use Sensorly to map your 4G coverage and see what 4G coverage everyone else is finding in LA. There is a map of the real LA coverage in that thread.

My speeds have slowed down since I first got the phone on Wed. June 16th. First time I tried a speed test on Thursday, June 17, I got 3.4-3.5Mbps down and the following week through today I have been getting 2.6-2.7Mbps down. Up has consistently been 1-1.1Mbps. Consistently have gotten 2-3 bars and sometimes 4 (if you count the "4G" icon as a bar).

I'm on the 21st floor of a building at 5th and Fig and my office window faces west towards the 110.

Changes in speed / connectivity for the rest of you?

Yeah, my 4G is slower. 3G is way faster, I think there still messing with it, on Sunday there was no 4G here. Before that, it was working really good.

Came in to work today in downtown LA, and decided to turn on the 4G antenna just to see what would happen. Surprisingly, the Evo picked up a 4G signal. I was surprised, since 4G isn't scheduled to be rolled out in LA until later this year. Not that I'm complaining. ;)

It's fast, man. Looks like that $10 Evo tax is paying off. :)

Yeah, there's signal just south of downtown, and the area around the 405 and wilshire. I haven't found any other 4g areas. Which is kinda weird because a bunch of my clients have wimax all over santa monica, they're getting it from the top of the twin towers in century city. Maybe sprint just hasn't worked out a deal with that particular wimax provide, which I believe is towerstream.

Oh, and I got my EVO on the 4th of June and did some tests with the speedtest, net app. It was consistently around 2-4 megs down and 1meg up. The thing is that since 4g coverage is so sparse, it would cut the data signal whenever it switched between 3 and 4g. And since I listen to Sirius/xm on my phone it was such a pain.

So yeah, basically I only turn on 4g if I'm in an area where I know I have it, and where I'll be planted there for a while. If I'm driving I just leave it on 3g so I don't have any hassles.

Sensorly shows unannounced Los Angeles Coverage

I'm getting 4g notification while driving around Long Beach. It connected near the Long Beach airport and was averaging 4 mpbs dl.

Picked up 4g in Long Beach tonight. From Wardlow to Carson st, between Orange to Lakewood. Averaging 7.2 mbps down 1.2 up, according to speakeasy.

I picked up one bar of 4G today at Colony Park in Anaheim (just east of Lincoln and Anaheim Blvd intersection).

Placentia

I had signal in Placentia (near Anaheim at Orangethorp and Rose). It stayed on while I drove south on the 57 until I approached Ball rd. Last week I had 4g in anaheim (State college & katella), now I don't. At least I know they have the towers installed.
