Picked up a 4G Signal in Los Angeles!

SD-la jolla area

anyone in SD around la jolla/coronado heard about our area picking up 4G, it seems like only LA and SF are getting 4G

wow this is good to know, but like one of the repliers said it may just bea testing phase :/ i can wait 5 months though, hopefully Orange County will be a part of the LA rollout.

what they need to do is go through with that Walmart rumor and place WiMax towers on top of all the walmarts... i'm right between two of them haha.

Nothing yet in Old Town Pasadena and Long Beach. I turned on 4g on my EVO, hoping to pick up a signal:)

What parts of LBC have you tried? I'd imagine downtown and 2nd street will be the first areas up and going. Rumor has it Anaheim and Fullerton are rocking 4G now. I live in Belmont Shore and would love to hear if/when you find LBC has a 4G signal since I won't be able to get an EVO until July.

I've tried it in the Wrigley area, Signal Hill area near the auto dealerships, near the ghetto on Anaheim and Cherry etc.. I haven't tested downtown yet. I'll post here when I get 4g signal.

Now, interesting thing - what about Valleys?

Yes, that's my question as well. Will (and when) WiMax actually come to the San Fernando Valley? Sprint's kind of quiet about actual dates and coverage areas.

I've been drooling over the EVO since it was announced. I currently own and use both a T-Mobile Nexus One and an iPhone 3G. I had been planning on getting an EVO the day it was released (tomorrow!) but with a few unknowns out there I think I''m going to wait:

1) the newest iPhone is likely to be announced this Monday (6/7), and the leaks/rumors on it seem interesting enough to at least wait and see what they're offering.

2) AT&T is screwing around with data plan rates and telling customers they must lock-in current rate plans (data) before 6/7 or they'll be forced to select the newer less generous plans. This suggests that maybe some change in network provider is in the works by Apple for the iPhone, or some change in data usage. Seems like AT&T is trying to get you to sign up before you find out Sprint or Verizon's getting the iPhone. I'd have said not likely a few months ago, but certainly seems possible at this point.

3) I'd rather not get the EVO until I'm in a 4G area. I know the EVO's a hot phone even in 3G only area, but the $10 4G surcharge, whether you're in 4G territory or not annoys me, and I'm also hung up on the no-data connection while on the phone with CDMA devices. Not a huge real-world issue I guess, but it's convenient to be on the phone with someone and be able to send them a picture while talking without hanging up to do it.

Either way, as much as I appreciate the Nexus One as a device, T-Mobile coverage is so flakey in the Valley, especially in my house's neighborhood, I am getting a bit frustrated with them. Dropped calls, missed calls, Edge only for a mile radius around my house, 3G drops outs near work (Van Nuys Airport area), etc. AT&T is so much better around here. I haven't had Sprint in years for voice, but I had a data card from them up until last summer, and it was always fast and had great coverage around town.

I'm in LA again today, and it looks like coverage expanded a bit, as I have 4G starting at 1st and Hill now. Awesome.
