Pixel 2/2 XL - December Update (OTA) 12/5

Still nothing for me either. I have an unlocked Pixel 2 XL and an unlocked OG Pixel XL. I was running the Beta on my OG Pixel and I unenrolled from the Beta and factory reset. Waited 24 hours for a stable version of Android Oreo.... still nothing and it is still showing that I'm on 8.1.0 with the November security patch. Also, when I reset my phone or power back on it's still showing that my phone is on the Beta. I have no idea what's going on with it. I'll just wait patiently I guess.

Timing of when you get it pushed out is pretty much a lottery. Last time I got my update about 2 weeks after it rolled out. 8.1 hit last night (about 7pm ET). Pixel 2 XL 64GB Black from Google Store, unmodified, running on T-Mobile.

My best guess is that they define small blocks for the initial rollout covering a span of different configurations (2 vs 2XL, different primary networks, different geographies, maybe different storage configurations) and then randomly seed matching devices in to fit that number, then go with progressively larger blocks for the rollout once it appears there are no initial issues.

Apparently the "Check for update" button doesn't work:

The 'Check for update' button on Pixel/Nexus devices still isn't pulling the latest OTAs as promised, but it'll be fixed in 2018

Google will fix it in January. Once they fix it, it'll override the rollout. For now, I've been sideloading the updates since I'm too impatient to wait.

Oh well, hopefully tomorrow. I'd blame Verizon but I've seen posts from people on verizon getting it, so...

(update) seriously not here yet, was going to try to sideload, but forgot my Pixel 2 is from Verizon and is not able to unlock bootloader. Anybody know any tricks to get the update in a timely manner? I never had this issue with my OG Pixel.
Wish I still had that phone...

You don't need an unlocked bootloader to sideload.

The most noticeable change I've seen with the update is transparency to the launcher or app drawer and the home buttons fading, also unable to swipe down(on a blank part) on the home screen now for the notification bar kind of miss that one
My biggest interest was in the security part of it

You can still pull down but before I could do it from a blank part of the home screen with a swipe motion

Yeah.... I waited over 3 weeks for the November and then chose the "clear framework data"method and then I got it moments after...

But, I don't suggest anyone do that.... It killed a number of notifications and the phone went a tad wonky... Bad enough that I had to reset it and it is still not 100% as it was before...

So, await I shall this time or sideload it.... Then maybe a complete reset after just to get it right...

Thanks for posting that, since that was going to be my question. I've heard of people getting the update that way, but was afraid of the consequences. I've got a Mac, so sideloading looks like a major pain... However, I'm very impatient about this update

We're you on a developer's preview to get that feature? I'm on the regular releases and I don't have that ability. I tried a few different spots on the home screen, and the only ways I can get the notification shade is to swipe from the top as it's always been, or swiping the fingerprint scanner. I think you might be thinking of something in Nova launcher.

Just to be clear....

Update Size -
500mg or higher is for those on 8.0
40mg - 60mg is for those on the Beta program...

and if you are on the beta.... un-enroll after you get this update.... if you don't, no security updates for you... I learned that the hard way...

I was in the beta program for a month, and I liked the changes, as subtle as some are. Patience is key, I suppose...

Received Final OTA yesterday for 8.1 on Beta 8.1...At&t P2 XL ..The December update was the only change I noticed. Was already stable with no issues and all apps I use worked. I'll probably stay in the Beta program...the security updates came fast enough for me.

I tried sideloading from my Macbook Pro and got a message on the phone that said.." ERROR-This device is not campatible and cannot complete request"
Which is weird, cause I sideloaded 8.0 Beta to my Essential yesterday from said MBP. ???
