You need to use a launcher that supports icon packs like Apex or Nova.

How do you get rid of the date on the top row without using another launcher? It doesn't look like a widget that I can easily remove.

I'm running Nova Launcher with a widget you can find in the playstore called "Another Widget" which is what you see at top. To hide my status and navigation bars I used ADB commands through my PC to hide them. I just realized that squeeze for Google Assistant doesn't work with a hidden navbar. Other than that I'm loving the extra screen real estate and pie controls.
