Pixel 2 / 2 XL - Let's see your setup on your Home Screen(s)!

What's up with that little guy with his arms stretched out at the bottom right corner...???

Get bored quickly.

For a long time on my Nexus 6P I would keep the home screen strictly the wallpaper with no apps revealed [until swiping commenced]. On my Pixel 2 XL, I've decided to keep the dock apps and Google search bar always accessible. I've been stuck on this wallpaper for months. Lord Vader is using the force to grip my mind from making a change.

Love this! Are you excited for the new Star Wars movie? :)

I'm coming to the Pixel 2 from an iPhone, so please forgive my uninformed question: what exactly is an app launcher, and (why) do I need one?

You don't "need one", in the case of the Pixel 2 it comes with the "Pixel Launcher", which is the interface you use access application, setup appearance, and other features.

However, launchers give you ability to customize the look and feel of your phone.

A lot of folks here recommend launchers such as Nova. Samsung phones come with the launcher called touchwiz, HTC comes with sense.

Configurability is what Android is all about

If you are coming from an iPhone, IOS environment, there will be some new things you will need to get use to, but that should make things interesting

What is an app launcher?

An Application Launcher is a third-party UI program... Aftermarket app launchers are essentially replacement home screens—they take over the duties performed by the factory UI—and they're generally aimed towards intermediate to advanced users looking for additional customization options.
