Pixel 2 durability :( (bend test complaint)

Disappointed. Phone is actually plastic. Guys, don't be fooled. Glad JerryRigEverything was able to afford to expose this.

It is not plastic.. you are the only one that's fooled. It's a coating. Your car is coated with laquer paint...does that make it laquer?

No. Absolutely false.

I watched the video, why would you attempt to convince me of something that is easily proven false?

If you think the phone is vulnerable, don't buy it. If you don't like the phone, don't buy it.

At this point your behavior is bordering on trolling.

If you have a problem with my posts, hit the "!" up above my posts.

Lol no absolutely not. He was digging into the phone with a point of a utility knife, that in no way mimics keys in a pocket.... Are you being serious, or just purposefully obtuse now? No one is making excuses for anything. His tests are stupid, and don't mimic anything in real life.

Metal doesn't get into contact with phones in everyday use? That's news to me. I see posts all the time where people are concerned because keys/tables/sand scratched their phones.

What doesn't make sense is putting a metal back on a phone and then making it feel and look like plastic. If they had used plastic, the phone could have been cheaper, had wireless charging, and felt and looked exactly the same.

It has already been explained to you why there is a plastic coating on the back. If you don't like the reasoning, don't buy it! Move on to something else like the note 8 or lg v30. Then when those don't get updates, or start to lag, just desk with it, ok?

I mean, we all criticized LG when they made the LG G5 in the exact same way as HTC made the Pixel 2. Why does one get a pass when the other one didn't?

I don't think it's the same coating as the G5. The G5 was a thick plastic coating. I know what a G5 feels like and it's totally different feel than the Pixel.

Then you would have complained about the cheap plastic materials.

Have you ordered a Pixel 2 or considered ordering a Pixel 2?

I wouldn't have cared if it the phone had a plastic back. I didn't even care about the back of the Pixel 2/XL aside from their choice of materials didn't make sense. I had a Pixel 2 XL on pre-order, but cancelled it after people started receiving their phones and user impressions started flooding Reddit. My demo experience with a Pixel 2 XL was also not good. The Pixel 2 was nice, but I like big screens.

It makes perfect sense. People put phones in pockets in skinny jeans. Phones bend or break. It happens all the time.

If you put a phone without a case, ANY phone without a case, into the pocket of skinny jeans and sit down, then you get what you deserve. That's just being negligent and stupid.

If you want phones that are indestructible you'll be waiting a long time.

And none of this changes the fact the his tests in that video didn't mimic any real world threats that a phone might face.

Who puts a lighter to their phone? Do you? What real life scenario is that supposed to portray?

It's essentially the same process. Both devices have a plastic coating on them to hide antenna lines.

People use phones without cases all the time. That doesn't make them stupid. Some people don't like the added bulk of cases.

Keys won't scratch GG 5. The hardness isn't high enough. Sand will because it's a 7 on the mohs scale. That didn't matter if it's a note or pixel it will scratch it. How to tables scratch your screen? Seriously if you don't like the phone move on. Go get the note or v30. I'm sure there are no default or anything with those 🙄

What I don't understand is why he bothers with the Gorilla Glass Scratch test. GG5 scratches the same way on every phone.
Shame on Dbrand for sponsoring this no talent sham artist.

Thicker on the G5. For most people it doesn't matter. It's less fragile than glass. Frankly I would prefer if the entire back had no glass.

He didn't put on that much force. He applied the same force as a device would if the phone would be pressed against keys in a pocket.

There is a huge difference between how damaging keys are vs a box cutter with identical amounts of force. It's basic physics. That's why for me, as entertaining (or painful, in the case of this blue Pixel 2) as it is for me to watch him destroy the phone, it doesn't really bear any real-world relevance for me.

I'm glad he didn't kill a Panda

I guess if one scratches earlier it might indicate that the manufacturer didn't use what they said they had. What I don't understand is why he uses the box cutter on the back of the phone regardless of construction. We know it will scratch any metal or plastic phone and shouldn't scratch any glass one, so that test tells us very little.

However, I do think that breaking a glass back is a bigger risk for most people than bending the way he does. But since there's a huge element of luck in whether a phone survives a drop I regard drop tests as entertainment rather than information as well.
