Pixel 2 durability :( (bend test complaint)

Real world or not he has done enough phones with the same test it gives you some idea of build quality.

The video is entertaining to watch.
But I always slap a screen protector (preferably tempered glass) and a decent Ringke/Caseology case on my phones so I think my Pixel will be just fine a year later. Heck my OG Pixel looks practically new.

No it doesn't. His tests in no way subject the phone to real world usage. This guy is basically the 'will it blend' YouTube phenomenon of the mid teen thousands.

I'm baffled that people actually think what he does is relevant. I'd assume anybody who seriously was interested in getting a Pixel wouldn't change their minds because this video. Surely the people using this to trash the phone are people who never considered getting it in the first place

Yep I'm excitedly waiting for my pixel 2

This is the only phone I've seen that had me concerned enough not to purchase.

This guy's tests are fun to watch and for the most part irrelevant. I think the best takeaway is the scratch test on the screen.

Years ago I found some very old Consumer Reports magazines from the 1970's at my Dad's house. One issue tested pony cars--Plymouth 'Cuda, Ford Mustang, Chevy Camaro. All failed the Consumers Reports tests because:

1. There was very little leg room in the back seat.
2. The exhaust noise was excessive, especially under hard acceleration.
3. Rear view visibility was terrible.
4. The ride was rough.
5. The trunks were smallish with small openings and had high rear bumper lift over height.

This guy's tests reminded me of the CR tests on pony cars--set a test standard that no one who would be interested in the particular product actually cares about, perform the test and then judge the product accordingly.

Right? He sounds completely uninformed in his opinions about just about everything. I had to laugh a few times.
Well, he's clearly riding a hobbyhorse re. putting any sort of coating on top of metal. It's one thing if the coating comes off in chunks if you drop the phone, but big deal if you can scrape it off with a carpet knife. No duh.

I will agree with one thing he said, tho: solid hard plastic would have been better and would have allowed for wireless charging. Got me thinking back to the days of black rotary desk phones and how many characters in noir melodramas were killed by some creep wielding only the handset from one of those things. Now that's durability.

Disappointed. Phone is actually plastic. Guys, don't be fooled. Glad JerryRigEverything was able to afford to expose this.

The phone is not actually plastic. Don't be fooled by that jerk.

Metal coated with a non-slip plastic coating is not plastic by any stretch of the imagination.

Why would you be disappointed because some narcissistic YouTube attention seeking ***** destroys a phone? Nothing he did to that phone mimics anything you'll do to it in real life, unless you're really stupid.

Pixel 2: Paint scratches easily; Bends to breaking

JerryRigEverything took the Pixel 2 through its paces. Good news on the screen side, it holds up well.

However, on the back, the painted on finish is easily scratched. The fingerprint sensor also scratches, and it may be rendered inoperable if that happens--Careful of coins and keys.

Also, the antenna location is right where it shouldn't be, at a maximum flex stress point. Doesn't take much to have the case fracture at this site. The other side is sturdy, but the warning is to be careful about carrying it in your back pocket.

No word yet on the XL. Should be the same re scratches, but have to hope the antenna location is different.......

Moral of the story: Consider putting a case on the thing......

Except the phone isn't plastic. It's metal dipped in plastic. He didn't expose anything. Nothing he does exhibits any type of real world usage. It's good to know if I don't try my hardest to bend my phone it won't bend. Nothing this guy does is useful.

I always put my phones in cases.

But, apart from the test using the scribe on the screen, that guy is not actually providing any kind of useful information that one could use to extrapolate how vulnerable the Pixel 2 is to real world threats.

Keys in the pockets have about ZERO chance of duplicating what his knife did to that coating. Using what he did to justify saying thet the coating is easily scratched is absolutely ridiculous, it's simply not true.

That guy bending the phone on purpose does NOT mimic any sort of every day stress.

The problem is that the phone may as well be plastic since it feels plastic anyway. Plastic would have allowed wireless charging and been more durable and cheaper than the metal with plastic feeling paint coating on top.
