Pixel 2 (NON-XL) Owners Club Reviews

Did a video call with my uncle in the USA just now so he can unbox my Pixel 2 for me and test it to make sure it wasn't DOA. Glad to see it seems to work. :D Can't wait to get my hands on this phone. Have to wait another week and a half....

thanks for the comparison to the S6 display. seems like mixed opinions I will have to wait to see it first.

how do the textures of the phones feel between the colours? is it true black feels the best? does it feel like iPhone7 Huawei P10?

First impressions of 64gb just black uk version.
Looks - v nice, no issues with the bezels. I'm not looking at them
Feel - v good, excellent grip and size for my hands
Speed - so quick and buttery smooth
Camera - not much taken but looks incredible so far. The detail in average light conditions, wow
Screen - looks really good to me. I prefer the more neutral colours against a friends galaxy 8+. Just my view. See some colour shift when tilting but it's just not relevant
Software - simple and stock. Just as I like. Fingerprint unlock is so fast

Not done any audio yet. So much more to do but so far it's all thumbs up :)

Just to add a couple of things:
Can't get the notification light to come on
Camera is even more amazing than I originally thought
'Now playing' works well for a lot of current songs
'Google lens' is fun and worked well on our cat, posters with texts, pics etc
The assistant is amazing and actually useful in my view.
I don't like the headphone jack adapter. It isn't very secure and the connector wobbles. Sound is fine. Will probably get some Bluetooth ones.

Just so far and away the best phone I've ever had so far..

I have had a Pixel for a year, and I will tell you that the Pixel 2 (not-XL) screen is a MAJOR downgrade over last years Pixel. Reminds me of the screen on my old Nexus 5. Washed - out, dull, etc. Would be acceptable only for a mid-range priced phone.

I've been using it for a day now and everytime I turn it on I'm like "this screen is a horrible". Really ruining my experience with the phone.

I have never felt like a new phone was a downgrade until the Pixel 2. If it wasn't for the improved camera it would already be in the return process, but I am going to give it a week. Still likely going back.

This is because the Pixel 2 screens are locked to "sRGB". If you set your old Pixel's screen to sRGB (in the Developer Settings) you'll find that the screens will have roughly the same color reproduction.

It's a matter of preference really... Me personally, I prefer sRGB over the more vivid screens. I even had my Nexus 6P set to always be on sRGB. The sRGB pallet is more accurate so it's easier for me to judge photos taken on the phone and how they would transfer to my PC or on prints.

Agreed.... for me I prefer the pixel 2 screen but it is just a matter of preference

Did you try it with vivid colors on?
I think it puts it right where it should be. When I look at my old pixel it's seems cartoonish to me now.

Give sRGB a try though. It takes a while to adjust your eyes to it, but once you've adjusted you may find yourself liking it more than the usual over-saturated OLEDs. I know I did.

After 3 days I am sold on sRGB. No need for that ultra deep color saturation which now just looks unnatural and cartoonish. This is after years of Samsung AMOLEDs.

So I've had my Pixel 2 for a full week of use and I absolutely love this device. I didn't think anything could surpass my adoration for my OG Pixel, but this device has done it a week in.

The 2 XL is getting all of the press right now for the wrong reasons, and that's so unfair to this device. I understand, from a business point of view that sensationalism is a money maker for them, but the Pixel 2 is a great device being drowned out by a lot of noise right now.

The software UX is second to none! They way I use technology, my mobile devices are mainly for extracting information, making calls, and setting appointments on the move. It is important for me that the phone is functional, can take care of business and work well. For me, the AI/ML direction that Google is going is important and what I believe is the future of computing. That's a soapbox for another post. Getting back to the Pixel 2.

The screen is crisp and clear and I actually like the colors used by Google on this phone and won't be turning on the "saturated mode" once it's released. I thought I was going to hate the search bar being at the bottom, but actually like it so much more than when it was at the top of the screen.

Battery life has been just awesome! I know people want wireless charging as a feature, but the quick charging feature is more important to someone like me when I'm in an airport or something and may need a quick boost.

Excited about Google Lens and Visual Core and how they will work with Google Assistant, as well. I just love the idea of a smart phone finally truly being smart!

I hope everyone is enjoying their devices as much as I am mine!

I'm happy with the colors too and don't plan on updating that , I am going to install a launcher though to make my home screen look to my preference ^^^

While I agree, I would still update. You don't have to set it to saturation mode, it just gives you the option to from what I've read. They're going to have it set to sRGB by default with the option to change it to saturation mode, where before by default it had a saturated screen with the choice (in developer options) to switch it to sRGB. So essentially they're flipping it.

Yes I plan on updating ^^^, just not necessarily using the colors, did enable developer options, and on Oreo or Google seems to be a lot more choices in there

Agreed. However, if someone gives you flack about the washed out colors, you could now show them what it would look like with a saturated screen. And then just explain to them this is more color accurate. It's not like the panel isn't capable of saturated colors, it's just calibrated more correctly.

The reason many want the saturated look is that the images "pop" more, catching the eye. Most advertising is the same way, using bright, vivid colors to get people's attention. You even see it on TV series, with the shows CSI and CSI Miami probably being the worst offenders. Real life doesn't look like it does on those shows, but it looks more vibrant and "pops" more. While it looks cool, it's not true to life.

Loving what I’m hearing about the P2. Can’t wait for mine to arrive in a couple more weeks. Wish it would be sooner. Sounds like an awesome device.
