Pixel 2 Trade-In Nightmare - Buyers Beware!!!

Mine now has changed status to "Assessing old phone". Fingers crossed that I actually get the $400 credit for my old Pixel XL.

I mailed mine on 10/25. Then a shipping delay had it arrive on 11/1. Current status is like yours “Assessing old phone”. Gosh I hope they let me know soon!

Email them. I did and they put the money into my account the same day before they even responded.

Yeah I just got my refund yesterday. Something happened, one day after they told me it could be another 14 days i got my refund.

Seriously.... how long does it take to assess the phone? Let's be generous with the time allotted:

  • Opening the envelope: 1 minute
  • Removal of case and/or SP if still on device at time of receipt: 2 minutes
  • Does it power on? 1 minute
  • Is the screen cracked? 30 seconds
  • Is it factory reset (does it load to the 'new device screen')? 15 seconds
  • Do charging port, volume, and power buttons work? 2 minutes
  • Does the screen properly register touches? 1 minute
  • Is the phone free of any damage beyond normal wear and tear to the body? 2 minutes

Anything big I'm missing? Otherwise... still under 10 minutes (and realistically should be less than 5 minutes).

If all of those items check off in the clear, hit a button confirming the quote and get the credit processed the next day...

trade in story - bad so far

Submitted my Nexus 6p and was estimated at 151. They claimed I didn't factory reset (which I did)and now they are only giving me 15 dollars? About anyone else get this?

I thought you canceled your order due to price, no headphone jack, no 600mhz for T-Mobile, found it "unacceptable", etc. ?

Yeah I caved. I wanted a good travel camera. I cancelled, than reordered. Then I cancelled again and then reordered.

USPS delivered mine on 11/3 although Google support said they show 11/8. Still assessing it and have heard nothing since.

And now Project Fi has lowered the maximum trade-in values for the Nexus 5X and 6P, to $50 and $70 respectively-- which oddly enough brings the max estimate more in line with receiving $15 for the phone and an additional $35 in credit after you complain. Looks like the same devaluation is in effect on the Google Store, too, even though an early page for the trade-in program is still announcing up to $165 for the 6P.

Is everyone sending in their charging brick and cables in along with the phone? The instructions seem to imply to just out the phone only in that flimsy envelope. I find it odd they wouldn't want the cables? If I could get max value without sending the cables that would be nice....

Re: trade in story - bad so far

Mine was received in Atlanta on Nov. 6. I called on Nov. 27 and was told they are backed up so wait two weeks. I explained I'd already waited three weeks and was told the same - backed up, just wait. Non-responsive and useless answer. Google has completely dropped the ball on this program. I didn't ask for a supervisor and I wonder if that would help. Interesting that the trade in web site still promises three to five day response for your trade in.

Re: trade in story - bad so far

I got the same response from them when i called today....same situation as you...mine was received on Nov 9th and still nothing! I asked for supervisor and they said "our managers do not speak with anyone on the phone."

Classy! Albeit better than saying "You customers are nothing but a PITA!" outright.

You do not need to send in the charger or cable. I kept mine and still received my full $410 credit. All I sent was the phone, although I did put the padded envelope with the phone in it inside the shipping box for my Pixel 2 along with some bubble wrap. I didn't trust that little envelope.
