Google copying iPhone doesn't makes any sense

I don't understand the hatred of bezels. They help you have somewhere to hold the phone. I think they don't look too bad. Maybe I used iPhones for too long. I prefer a bezel to a notch ANY day.

Yes. The first Pixel, almost everything on the physical design, from the size, bezels, layout ... plus the frosted dock area, and even pricing were taken directly off of Apple. The Pixel 2XL and the iPhone 8 Plus are within 1/20[SUP]th[/SUP] of an inch of each other on every physical dimension. Their cameras are in the same place, etc. The 2XL and 8+ have a difference in area of 3/8 in[SUP]2[/SUP] less than 1 teaspoon of difference in their volume; barely over half a teaspoon at 2.9 milliliter difference.

They are meant to look the same and to be priced the same and Google would prefer it if they had separate displays, yet near to each other, so that people view them as more or less the same set of options made by two different vendors. Google is actively seeking to shape the opinion of the public that the Pixel is the iPhone of Android devices (and or better). All the copying is intentional and for that specific reason along with one other: making it easier for iPhone users to choose the Pixel as an alternative without feeling like they're holding an alien device. Hence the adapter and software made specifically for transferring your data from your iPhone to your Pixel.

Rumor mill is saying that Google tapped Foxconn to make both versions of the new Pixels, so LG and HTC are both out as factory sources. If Google can afford Apple's level of quality control, that has the potential to be amazing.

Oh dear. Don't like the sound of LG making the displays again for the Pixel.

I'm fine with Foxxcon manufacturing the devices. Apple use them and iPhone's are the gold standard for high quality hardware.

I just hope that LG have somehow really increased the quality of their displays this year.

Now, according to AC, Bloomberg is reporting that Verizon will once again be the exclusive carrier in the US. This is really pushing my buttons as Google has denied me subsidizing for the OG Pixel. Didn't even try last year. This is the type of thing that makes me wish I didn't hate iOS so much. If you want to get a foothold in the market in the states, you have to be available at carrier locations.

You can buy it directly from Verizon or from Best Buy. Both have financing independent of Google. It still works on all carriers.

There's financing available so that you can make monthly payments. Subsidizing, getting the phone at a lower cost isn't guaranteed though.

As best as I can remember, Google had financing for the Pixel directly from their store for unlocked purchases as well as for use with Project Fi.

If you finance through Verizon, you'll have to be a Verizon customer to use their Device Payment Plan.

If you finance through Best Buy, you'll have two financing options: (1) through a Best Buy credit card or (2) if you're a Verizon customer, through Verizon's Device Payment Plan.

If history is any indication, Best Buy will only carry the Verizon model which will probably be the same except for the locked bootloader - which means nothing to regular customers.

Subsidizing/financing, whatever. I just want a Pixel. I want to walk into TMobile and get a Pixel. That's all I want. The fact that Google is trying to make headway in the market and they're only on one carrier is ridiculous.

They're not, and six months later it still took me three weeks to get a Pixel 2 XL.

I agree with this all day!

IMO, it makes sense to do a controlled rollout for so many reasons. Google needs to get things nailed down TIGHT before doing multiple carrier deals. QC will be front and center come the fall without any doubt after the headlines last fall. The HTC human capital JUST got on board full time. Brand recognition beyond the population that keeps up with the tech community.. so many things..

Doing a full blown "every carrier and their cousin" type distribution just screams of more problems than they need right now. Every phone out is a potential problem. Things definitely need to be tempered at this point.

Why not make the deal with HTC?

I'm coming from the premise that they're not ready. Couple years with HTC. Buy HTC's folks. Year 3, try out Foxconn...
