It was OFF when I pulled it off the charging stand. Pressed Power button. A reboot through the google logo.. Turned off again. And this has now repeated about 6 times. Shows about 99% charge.

I can't seem to even get to Settings.

Ideas other than DYING!!!

edited to add: Just rebooted into Safe mode. Shall see....

I will reply rather than edit the OP again.

It seems to be holding okay. I did check space and have about 9gigs free. But deleted about five apps. I should probably clean up another 100!!!! Well, that might be an exaggeration but maybe not.

But any ideas of why this two year old + decided to throw a fit this morning? I still have not gotten around to "interviewing" the Pixel 6 lineup and their respectinve sizing. I really do like the size of the Pixel 3. While more screen real-estate is nice, I just like the weight and size and pocketability of the 3.

Hmm, that's a bit worrisome. The Pixel 3 line did have issues with bricking without warning: https://www.techradar.com/news/goog...domly-bricking-as-hundreds-report-dead-phones. Make sure everything important is being backed up or synced, and keep a backup phone handy.

If you use Google Authenticator, you might want to stop using it on that phone, since if the phone dies suddenly before you can transfer the tokens to another phone, then you might be locked out of certain sites. This happened to me with Box -- I had a Google Authenticator on my old Pixel 3 XL, which died. Box has no other alternative ways to authenticate if you set it up with an authenticator app. When I tried to access my account (which I hadn't used in a few years), they asked me for details like the exact date I last logged in, the exact date I created the account, or the exact name of a file that was saved to it (I had backed up some music files in the past, but music filenames are almost never the same as the actual track name). I could never come up with the exact answer they were looking for, so I was SOL.

Can I just UNinstall Authenticator or is there a need to disengage it first? I don't think that I actually used it. I think that I installed it when I first got the phone since I was going to China and wanted more security.

You need to go to the sites you're using the token for and change the authentication method there (or turn off 2-factor for the site).

Ah, well, that's like you being asked when you created the account and the last time accessed!!! Who the heck remembers what I did two years ago. :D

I've had a few of those: Did you ever live at a or b or c or d or none? Did you own a toyota, oldsmobile, subaru, none. Enhanced drivers license, global entry. I'm an old man - I dont remember nor do I care!

Ever apply for a visa to enter China. God it was endless questions. They did not ask the important one - do you support independence for Taiwan - YES!

Guess I'm not going back to China!

UPDATE: The Pixel 3 is still turning off overnight but is charging. Is there some setting I've missed that causes it to turn off either while charging or after reaching 100%.

Maybe I should add that I purchased Google's newest wireless charging stand and apparently, it pairs with the Pixel 3. But I only tested it out about a week ago but have since used my older Samsung wireless charging disk. That google stand is not even plugged in since that initial test.

It still happens in Safe Mode? I'm not sure what the result of your previous Safe Mode test was ...

I was headed back here... eventually....

Yes and it was continuing to happen each night after leaving Safe Mode. I did delete about a dozen apps back then. I would wake up in the morning and the phone would be off. I had to press the power button and watch the google startup graphics.

EXCEPT last night for the first time in two or more weeks. This morning the phone was still on and responded to my finger print and was alive and awake.

Now explain that!!! Kidding except that I have no idea why suddenly this morning it was not OFF and why all these other mornings it was powered off. So will see what tomorrow brings.

I kind of meticulously (well, as much as I had patience for) looked at all the various settings looking for something that would affect power during charging. I did not see anything that aimed in that direction. It is still paired with the new Google Charging stand. And I've used both that stand and an older Samsung stand (both wireless) over the last week but Sansung the last two nights.

Totally off topic - how are you liking you new phone? Did you get a 6 or 6 something? (g)

Hey, listen this is much better than having my bicycle pedals not release when trying to stop. Trapped in pedals can lead to a fall. But in that case finally figured out what happened. The pedals were backwards - the shop re-attached the cranks wrong. Left crank on right side and right crank on left side. I was really cranky when I figured it out!

Since it happens in Safe Mode, I'd go back to my previous concern that this might be a big red flag that the phone is on its last legs.:-\

I love my 6 Pro, thanks for asking! Fortunately, I have not encountered any of the various bugs/glitches that others on these forums and elsewhere have mentioned. Just got the delayed January update, so hopefully things remain quiet on my end! The camera is still excellent, but there's some give and take -- the telephoto is awesome, but macro photography suffers slightly due to the larger sensor size (I think I might have discussed that with you in another thread). Still, absolutely no regrets.:D

And egad about the pedals! Glad it didn't end up with you getting hurt.
