Pixel 3a Texting in Pocket

Hello!
My dad has had a Pixel 3a XL for a few months, and he's been enjoying it for sure. Only problem is, he'll turn the phone off and put it in his pocket, but when he takes it out, it'll have butt dialed someone, texted someone, sent a WhatsApp message to someone, etc. It's been happening since he got the phone months ago, but we're looking into it now as I've put more thought to it being an actual issue rather than forgetting to turn the screen off. Anyone else experiencing this?

I was just about to post something similar..

At first I thought my phone was unlocked full-time due to Smart Lock being enabled (connected to my Fitbit Versa), so I disabled Smart Lock.

Today, my brother called me twice, and each time my phone answered while it was in my pocket. Annoying.

This also seems to happen when my ring doorbell notifies me of someone at my door. I'll get the notification, and somehow my phone app will open and random numbers will type while in my pocket.

Hopefully Google is aware of this and is doing something about it.

BTW, I have a Pixel 3a.

Report issues to Google people. The more the better and maybe a fix is being pushed out sooner.

Submitted feedback to Google tonight, but based on the other complaints online, I'm not too hopeful on this being resolved (Google search "Pixel 3a pocket dial").

so im a little scared about this issue. I dont have a 3a xl just yet but I was seriously considering buying one in the near future. this pocket dialing or waking issues is making me rethink my decision of buying one. I would think if it was software related, every 3a and 3a xl would have this same issue? did the android 10 update fix the issue or is it still happening?

I haven't experienced this at all. I got my 3aXL in May, and I regularly carry it in my back pocket.
