Pixel 3's Black Friday Sale

So is this sale desperate or realization that their Pixel is overpriced to begin with.

Imagine if Apple had this type of sale. It break records.

Does anyone recall if VZW revealed their BF deals early in past years? Google's deal is really appealing but I'll hold off as long as possible to see what VZW has.

The market has a way of self-adjusting..... companies will push as far as they can to find the ceiling price wise, and the consumer will let them know when they hit it. Samsung and Apple have both found the ceilings..... they've both seen slowing sales over the last 2 years, with Apples best selling phone being the iPhone 8 because of it's 450-500 dollar price point, and I think maybe Google wanted to find their ceiling as well. I'm getting the impression the pixel 3's aren't selling as well as Google was hoping for, so why not get more pixels into people's hands for black Friday, more owners often mean more fans/buyers down the road ;-)

I agree with your assessment and also think there is not a ton of difference between the P2 XL and the P3 XL. I think more folks are holding on to their P2's (both models).

Have we seen the Verizon Black Friday sale yet? Last year they had $300 off. Granted that was via bill credits over 24 months, but it is still $300. That would make it better than this $200 off deal.

I have not seen anything from vzw. According to their twitter folk they will not announce their bf deals until the 22nd. Since I didn't want to risk missing a better deal from google directly I placed my order for two P3 yesterday. I also like the idea of not paying the BS upgrade fee or being locked to vzw for another two years. Even though I have not plans on leaving them; nice to know I easily can if I want to at any point.

Apple doesn't do much in the way of sales except through carriers.

Samsung must be desperate as well since they discount their phone all the time along with various gifts

To answer if you are any company not named Apple then you need to have some kind of deals or incentives during holidays and other times to keep up with sales.

There could be a fair amount of truth to this. It would be very interesting to see the sales data and the price sensitivity analysis.

Agree with you! Markets also seem to start equalizing pricing as the tech difference, or the "Usable tech Differences" between entry and flagship products narrows.

As soon as Black Friday sales are over.
Phones will go back to full price.
Or buy one and get one for 1/2 price or free on contract.

So I stopped by the Google Hardware Store pop-up to check to see if I should buy there on Friday or order online. They said that, while they did sell unlocked Pixels (not just Verizon), they will not have the Black Friday sale in store. So, I got an expedited shipping code and will order online, only thing I need to decide is 64 gb vs. 128 gb (leaning towards 128 but don't want to get extra if I don't need to).

All I know is if I buy a Pixel 4 next year, I'm waiting until Black Friday. The trade in values this year we're down and the price of the new phone was up. Plus, the only perk offered at launch was a $50 store credit. I love my Pixel 3 XL. However, I'd be quite a bit happier if it had come with a Google Hub and a $50 credit.

If the deal had been where it is now at launch in terms of effective value, they'd probably have gained a lot more net upgrade sales when the 'upgrade fever' was at its height - I know I'd probably have gone ahead with it. With 4 weeks to settle, it's sparking my interest but I'm leaning towards holding off.

This definitely does set a precedent, though, that will put pressure on Google to do such a BF deal every year. With the knowledge that Google could have a much better deal at BF, just about a month after launch, a lot of people will resist the need for instant gratification in order to save some $, and will hold off for BF. Then, when they're anxious to finally get their new phone, if Google fails to offer a good BF deal, other OEM's handsets will be substantially more attractive at BF pricing, causing Google to lose out pretty heavily.

Remember
Google was not the only mfg selling phones.
Think Apple had just released their phones.
Before that was it the Samsung Note 9.

Nobody made anybody but a new phone.
Nobody twisted your arm to order a phone.

But it seems like no mfg can make people happy.

Sad.

I don't think verizon has really spilled the BF beans yet. They always have their android flagship at steep discount on BF. I got the OG pixel for free with trade in. I expect something like years past where you trade in a semi new phone and have a sub $10 or 15 device bill.

I guess most have forgotten that last year Google had a decent Cyber Monday deal that was similar in terms of value.

From what I'm seeing the deals aren't as good as last year's $300 off without having to trade in anything. That deal is what convinced my to buy my 2.

Google didn't run that directly last year, iirc. Was that a VZ or BB promo and not done as bill credits? If so, nice deal, but otherwise wasn't functionally valuable for many who don't want to be essentially locked to a carrier for a long term, or who didn't want to use VZ.

Last year, Verizon had a $300 off the Pixel2 BF deal. It was the 24 month bill credit offer, but no trade in or new line was required. We used that to get my son's phone. This year we want to get my father and I both the Pixel3. Going in circles trying to decide whether to just jump on the BB $200 off or gamble that Verizon will offer $300 off again....
