Pixel 4 $260 Trade in value for pixel 3 xl LOL

I dislike that Google got rid of unlimited original quality photo back ups, but I get it, they want people to subscribe to Google One for the storage. I dislike that they start with a paltry 64GB, but again, I get it, it's business; they want you to spend money to upgrade storage and/or buy cloud storage. I get the $100 promo credit, they want us to buy their accessories.

But the low trade-in value for their own devices? From your loyal customers wanting to upgrade? You want to be cheap to even them?

That, I do not get.

I also want to point out that on Apple's main iPhone webpage, if you scroll down, retaining high trade-in value is actually presented as a feature of the iPhone.

The low trade-in value for just a year old Pixel model from Google is a slap in the face.

Especially since the trade in values have been dropping year over year through Google. Maybe they'll do the $200 off again for BF.

Meh ... Isn't this the same trade in as last year? I could be wrong, I don't recall because I kept my Pixel 2 when I bought my 3.

Nope. They gave you $410 for a Pixel XL towards a 2. Last year i believe it was $335 for a 2 XL towards a 3. Last year the value dropped to $285 for me for the Black Friday deal, but that was with an extra $200 off so it was all good.

Duly Noted. I tried to look that up but only found like references to sales or whatever of Pixel 3/4. Thanks

Yes but Samsung offered the newest note 10's for $499 after trade in. Clearly even Samsung needed added incentives to sell the note. Google simply can't afford to give the same discounts as Samsung

Samsung wanted to give me $600 for my Galaxy s10e towards the new Note 10.

How is it Google can not afford to give the same discounts? Google is a multi-billion dollar company.

Speaking of brand loyalty...

It will be like last year. The Pixel will be a great buy after two things happen: 1) Price drop; 2) Google works out any early hardware/software kinks. The first few months are always the roughest; Ah, the Google way.

2 months from now, the market will be filled with like new pixel 4 xls for $600. Winner winner chicken dinner lol.

Note that TMobile is offering 64 GB version only for their pre-order
The trade-in value for P2XL is $200, much higher than what Google is giving

I'm sure they could afford to do it, don't understand why they don't want to encourage people to get a Pixel.

Just saw Samsung's current trade in values. I could get a S10e for less than $200 after trading in regular Pixel 3. Why is Google slapping all our assess with their insulting trade in values?

For the people that do trade in, what does Google do with these devices?

Google affiliates a 3rd party company for the trade-in process, which I presume refurbishes and resells them (though Google may have some clause to reserve some Pixel trade-ins if needed for refurbishment for warranty purpose).

That's actually the disturbing part - Each year they offer a progressively lower trade-in allowance on the prior year's flagship which enjoyed progressively higher retail.

I'm not sure about the first upgrade cycle, when the Pixel 2 launched, but I know that with the 3 and presumably the 4, the trade-ins are actually being managed by a 3rd party company, so Google isn't directly setting value, but they should be subsidizing at least a small loyalty bump to the values assigned for their own devices...

When the Pixel 2 launched, I didn't mind the price hike given the solid trade-in value. Had they retained that level, or even close to that % of original retail, I wouldn't think twice before submitting my upgrade/trade-in every year, like clockwork, even if the upgrades weren't staggering.

If BF rolls around and promotions and/or trade-ins a much better net value than they are today, I'll be keeping a close eye on Samsung to see if they reintroduce that short-lived $600 trade-in they offered on the Pixel 3 towards the Note 10...

I've always just sold my pixel phones on eBay and this year I'm doing the same. I also typically have 8-12 cases to go with it and I have gotten around 480-500. Going to aim for 430-470 with the 3xl 64gb along with all my cases. I have a few $50 cases to go with it so it typically helps.

If i can get the 4 for around $500 I'll think about upgrading from the 3xl. The fact that it may not have any better battery life than the crappy life on the 3 makes me think I'm better off just skipping it and holding out for the next Samsung S phone or next year's iPhones.

The 3a holds a huge part of the blame For the Value of the 3. That's why this year I probably won't be holding on to my 4 XL for more than 6 months before I sell it. The trade in / resale value on Pixels is terrible.
