Pixel 6 (or Pro) vs S22 Ultra

Re: Help with decision: Pixel 6 Pro vs. S22 Ultra

In those situations sometimes it's best to make up an excuse to buy both... keeps you from having the dreaded buyers remorse, keeps you from having to make the tough decision, and is a win-win... except for your wallet ;)

But hey if you use them both then money well spent right? Lol.. yes I'm a terrible corrupter :p

NOOO that sounds like a good idea! 🤣

Re: Help with decision: Pixel 6 Pro vs. S22 Ultra

I think that it is apples and pears though. For the extra £400 I would expect all those improvements. It is like comparing a Ferrari to a Kia. You aren't going to expect the same level of comfort in a Kia as you would in a Ferrari. You just aren't. If you can afford to spend the extra on the S22U then get that. If your budget runs lower the 6 Pro is a lovely phone and I don't have the issues you are saying you have had. It is like comparing an iPhone Pro Max with a 6 Pro. Again you are talking about a Rolls Royce and a Kia and expecting the same results.

Sorry but it has to be said. Pixels are budget flagships. They are priced that way and marketed that way. I would compare the 6 Pro to a OnePlus costing £900 not a phone costing £300-500 more.

Never been in a Kia; however, a Ferrari 599 GTO is not comfortable; it just goes really fast.

Kidding aside, I understand what you are saying. You bring out a good point.

Most people never think about the Pixel 6 not being a true flagship. I never have, but now, yea, I can see that.

Be interesting to see what changes (other than basic looks) are made to the P7P.

I get what you're saying but another factor is that Samsung have extremely aggressive deals with the phone, and I was able to get the S22U for cheaper than the Pixel 6 Pro, which very rarely goes on sale/has deals. So if you compare RRP, sure there's a difference, but it's very easy to get the S22U quite a bit cheaper than RRP.

I disagree that Pixels are budget flagships that are priced and marketed that way. That may have been the case earlier, but the Pixel 6 phones, Google have been explicit that they are flagship phones with premium-pricing. Rick Osterloh himself said “We’ve definitively not been in the flagship tier for the past couple years, this will be different” and that the Pixel 6 phones “it will certainly be a premium-priced product”

Whether $600 and $900 is 'premium-priced' is up for debate, but there's no doubt Google are positioning this phone to take on the iPhone 13 /13 Pro and Galaxy S22 lines of phones. These aren't competing against the iPhone SE and Galaxy A lines.

So if that's the case, and Google are saying these are premium devices, then IMO its not acceptable that the fingerprint scanner is flimsy (it really shouldn't be no matter the price of the phone), that the screen brightness isn't very good, that there have been a multitude of bugs - some quite serious like reception issues.

If Google came out and said 'these are mid-tier devices' and prices accordingly, then sure I'd give them some leeway. But that's not the case.

We don’t get aggressive deals on Samsung in the UK. So even with a trade in Pixels are hundreds of £ cheaper. I value my experience based on the price I am paying. But even so I have none of the issues you are complaining about. So my value and experience of using the Pixel means I feel happy with my purchase.

"System UI Tuner" downloads from the Play Store and runs natively on my Pixel 6 Pro. I'm able to use it to display "seconds" which are necessary for short term trading when using Interactive Brokers Trader Workstation for Android.

Hi Gary! Nice to see you around these parts! How have you been?

If you want the "best camera. Then get an iPhone. But if you want to stay with android, and want the best camera phone then get the Pixel 6. But if you want the best overall phone available right now. Then get the ultra.

You forgot to add "in my opinion."

Iphone is still the king when it comes to video, but i don't think I've seen a single comparison or review that has it ahead of the pixel or s22 for still photography.

Hi Cynthia! I've been just fine, and you? I see you're an Ambassador now! I still have the lovely picture of yourself that you posted a few years back!

That's awesome! I've been really busy but good, thank you! Yes, it's been a blast! I'm even more obsessed with phones than I was before! 🤣 I'm surprised I posted a picture of myself and not of my cat! Haha. What phone are you using now? Anything else besides the Pixel 6 Pro?

I only use one phone at a time, currently my Pixel 6 Pro. I'll be watching to see what Google does with the Pixel 7 Pro.

While there were some killer pre-order trade-in deals with Samsung folks seem to forget that at one point they paid full price for what ever they traded in. So while you may have paid $365 out of pocket, you also gave up another $1100 phone to get that price.

The Pixel 6 Pro does some things better and the Samsung does others better. To me I switch between both. I hate having two phones and one usually sits in the drawer, if I don't Swappa it, waiting to trade it in on the next phone. The reason I keep switching is I am undecided.

There is more coherency in Pixel phones and Samsung does throws everything on their flagship.

For me the Pixel is my choice for price and value. The cameras are amazing and Samsung just doesn’t cut it for me with cat photos. I always end up with microphone issues on Samsung Galaxy phones. Plus when Flossy Carter demonstrated the speakers playing music the S22U had tinny speakers with poor bass. That put me right off.

In the end it is personal choice.

I don't get how no reviews take pictures REAL people take. If they did that, the Pixel would be the only phone anyone would choose. How many of these situations have you been in and gotten crap/good photos depending on the camera you chose?

Taken a picture inside a mall
Taken a picture of your kid at (insert indoor kid game center here)
Taken a picture of your friends while at their/your house
Taken a random picture of your family/friends while indoor
Taken a picture of friends or family while having dinner in restaurant
Taken a picture of family/friends inside museum

I swear, reviewers act like all people take pictures of are sunsets, random inanimate objects or plants. If you take pictures of people and exist in a reality where people are inside a good majority of the time, choose the Pixel.

If you have no friends, no family, go camping or are one of those people who just takes pictures of food (while eating outside...you HAVE to be eating outside), go with the Samsung.

This has always aggravated me too ... And if they do take pictures of people it's typically outdoors on a gorgeous day where just about any phone would do well.

Samsung seems to have made great strides with (my) everyday scenarios pics on the S22U but I still give the edge to the P6P. (Heck, if I'm being honest I think I prefer my Pixel 3 over both!)

I do understand your point about reviewers taking pictures that some of us wouldn't take in reality. I see a lot of photos of buildings and random scenery. It's nice for examples and sample shots, but I can totally see what you're saying about taking photos of dinner at a restaurant, kids at a play centre, or even a room in your house.

NEWSLFLASH...some of don't have kids...mine are dead. My friends are primarily friends form work and where I worked, pictures of each other were forbidden. You just did not do it. We did not want our pictures to get out to the public. Not a great idea. Photos of my family? I would not use a camera to shoot my family members.

Pictures of food? Food in front of me is going to be eaten or tossed; no photos needed.

I can see we come from two different worlds.

I camp all the time, I use a Nikon D850 for photos. If I go to a museum it is with the Nikon or no photos will most likely be taken.

Sounds to me like you really need to get a small rangefinder from Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Sony, etc., and take GOOD photos.

But for a wake up call. People do purchase a cell phone for other things besides cameras hanging off the back. We purchase them for use as a phone; mini-computer, text messages, with cameras being the last thing on our mind. I have had the S22U now for about three days and have not even used the camera to take a photo of anything. But I sure have used the GPS, the phone, the internet, the text messaging.

So yes, I went with a Samsung since after doing research and reading the pros (praises), cons (complaints) I decided to go to the better CELL PHONE.

So if all you do is what you listed, then go with a Pixel. And I guess you did.
