Pixel 6 (or Pro) vs S22 Ultra

First, my condolences. If my post brought up memories which you'd rather not remembers then I apologize. Apologize for what also sounds like a very restrictive work environment. As for shooting the rest of your family, I'm sorry for that too.

With that being said, long story short, that's exactly what I said. If you take indoor photos, get the Pixel.

As for my "wake-up call", I assumed it was understood that all phones did every other thing similarly, or to a capacity that was similar. I mean, I switch between a 3XL, Pixel 6 and a Note 10+ and don't miss a beat 99.9% of the time. This means that there's no reason to compare things like ability to perform correspondence because yes, they are all capable. Similarly, every phone can browse the web and every phone can make adjustments to aesthetics and the way you interact with it.

So yeah, when all those things are so similar, then I'd imagine the one thing that comes to mind for MOST people is the camera. That's awesome you don't need it, but I'd venture to say you're a minority when it comes to how little you use or consider it when it comes to deciding what phone to choose.

I got one of the Pixel 6 Pro specimens received by my local Verizon store. For quite a while it was the best phone I ever had. I went up from the Pixel 3. My attraction to the Pixel phones are the updates and the camera. I'm not a power user by any means, but it was the 4x optical zoom that moved me to the P6P over the plain P6. Eventually the touch screen began to have issues. The screen would just bounce when trying to scroll up to read the next page, or it might do something completely unexpected, like open an app, even simply begin to place a random phone call. I often never new what to expect when I touched the screen. I had begun to wonder if all of the finger print sensor complaints were not in fact touch screen issues. Paradoxically my FPS mostly worked just fine.

Things reached a head when I got new Bluetooth enabled hearing aids. The P6P basically told me to go to hell, it was having nothing to do with pairing the hearing aids. If it did the connection was very short lived. I went into the Verizon store, as the fella I typically work with is pretty knowledgeable. He went around and around and had no better luck than I did. He even got on with the main Verizon center who connected to my P6P remotely. The end result was Verizon replaced the phone. To be honest was not a whole lot, if any, better than the one they replaced. I had switched using my Galaxy S20FE. This was just a week or so before Verizon pushed the Android 13 update. I wanted to see if A 13 made any difference. It turns out that A 13 pretty well transformed the new P6P, which I had refrained from using until I could update.

The S20FE had some issues too,so I took advantage of a trade in promotion from Verizon for the FE, which amounted to some $200 more than I paid for it. Had to change to unlimited, but that was already in the works, so no big deal. When it was all said and done, I got the Samsung Galaxy S 22 Ultra for $350. difference. So I have been using both those phones a whole lot in order to see which one came out on top. I figured I'd keep the winner and maybe get a less expensive mid-ranger for a backup.

It turns out that no matter what kind of gear you have, what you like, who made it, or what it cost, on down to service and warranty...nothing is perfect. The short story, for me anyway, is they are both very good phones. Perfect for me in this case would see a combination of features. At the end of the day, IU'm sticking with the S22U as the daily driver. This has to do with two things. First the cellular connectivity. I mostly use my phone as a phone, and I am often in some weaker signal areas, and the S22U kicks the P6p in the butt, and kicks butt again between the eyes on the way back up. I see no software improvement fixing the behind the times Samsung modem in the P6P. The bluetooth is also somewhat stronger in the Ultra as well. Those are two things I need to just work, and in my case it is the Ultra.

If the P6P had comparable cellular connectivity, the choice would not be nearly so clear cut. Google assistant has no peer in by view. The P6P has the better camera. The 100x zoom on the Ultra has potential, but there is a lot of room there for improvement through updates. However both cameras are exceptional. Both are able to perform above my needs or ability to use their potential. I also prefer the size and feel of the P6P.

My connectivity and bluetooth needs may be unique to me and where I use the phone. But that is my story, and I'll stick to it.
