Pixel ALMOST making me rethink my iPhone

Will still be smooth with any apps you download but no one can argue that apps on the iPhone are just better, including Google apps.

Also with iOS you don't worry about those apps that decide to misbehave and kill your battery.
Both of those points u brought up is false lol. Gmail and maps is wayyyyy better on Android. And it's easy as ever to manage an Android battery now days.

I also don't think this argument still works today with Android in general. My wife has had her S7 edge since April. It hasn't slowed down since then. Still works just like it did when she originally got it. I also think this will apply to the Pixel. I have faith that it will be just fine in five months. Heck, I still have glitches and errors and issues with my 6s Plus that I've had since last December. It's been a good device, but it is far from flawless.
I got a LG k10 and it hasn't slowed down yet and I've had it for about 6 months.

Bro, you named 2 apps, the truth is, plenty of apps just look and run better on iOS. It's unfortunate but thats the way it is. Developers put more work into iOS apps and even Google puts a lot of apps on iOS first. As far as your manage battery on Android, you don't have to manage battery on iOS and it's always consistent, that was my point. I can have so many things syncing, widgets, everything on with iOS and it doesn't affect my battery anywhere near as much. Your Android fanboism is blinding you from the truth that people need to be mad about to maybe fix these issues one day. The Pixel is a step in the right direction but still has a way to go. When you use an iPhone 7, boring or not, everything just feels and looks more polished.

This is coming from a guy that still thinks the Note 7 was the best Android phone and I also own a Pixel, so I don't want to hear that i'm an Apple fanboy.

Did you mean syncing? ;).

Also -- I don't manage my battery at all on the Pixel. I have used iPhones and tons of various Android phones. Some I did have to manage a little but so far with the Pixel .. I just use it. I get great life and it charges quick so that gets a double check for me.

As for apps .. It is only true if the apps you use actually do work better on iOS. All apps don't work the same -- especially Google ones for me. My Google apps do a LOT in the background that just can't happen on iOS due to how their OS works... So it is def. a more of "how you use your phone" type of thing not a blanket "Nope they're better on iOS" thing.

If you are talking multitasking, of course Android is the way to go.

Well I am talking about background tasks so I don't have to open the app to do it. Take Google Photos -- on my gf's iPhone I have to remember for her (since she never will) to open the app and let it sit in the foreground to upload. That is a pain IMO. Having to open AND let it sit? Whereas on Android I set to upload on wifi/when charging and forget about it. My phone will upload photos anytime I am on wifi and charging without me lifting a finger or opening the app.

Also I like how Google Maps can ping me / tell me traffic based on location without being open as well. Helps when leaving work / going home :).

Im in a dilemma between two phones and I think your point here is excellent regarding the pixel. I love my s7 edge, but I got the pixel and the battery management is so amazing, I never ever have to open my battery stats to see "what is draining my battery" on my s7 edge I'm constantly looking at my battery stats because I never got good battery life out of the phone. My android system uses an average of 35% and is ALWAYS on top of the list. On the pixel, my average is 6%!!!!!!!!! I'm thinking that TouchWiz is the culprit for this. The pixel works and it works well and lasts my all day. My s7 edge also works, just not very well and I don't know what to do!!

Why not just live and let live?

When the Pixel XL 128GB is almost $1,000, it better have the hardware specs to compete with other phones in that price range. Why should anyone get the Pixel XL 128GB over the iPhone 7 Plus? Or the S7 edge? Just because the software experience is smooth doesn't make it a great phone. Great hardware plus great software makes a great phone, and when a phone lacks the important features of other smartphones in the same price range, features such as IP67/IP68 rating, wireless charging, microSD card slot, etc., it shouldn't cost as much as it does.

Why do I care? Because blogs like AC, Droid Life, Android Authority, etc., hails the Pixel/Pixel XL as the greatest Android phone ever when it clearly shouldn't be the case. It's really misleading.

You are listing a whole lot of Fringe features that do not really matter in the overall experience of a device to most consumers. The pixel is well worth its position among the other leaders and is a head on several areas of the hardware experience, if that is all you are concerned about. But more importantly it is the leader on software and on security. And as has been said so many times before, the list of features is not the thing that we are purchasing, it is the combination of features and how well they are implemented together as a package. Obviously it is not your cup of tea which should have been discernible from a quick glance at the spec sheet showing that it was not the S7 Edge, but that has no bearing on whether or not it can be an enjoyable phone for others or the most enjoyable phone for others. Long story short you are not their demographic intended audience and so thank goodness that someone else is making phones that appeal to your wishes.

Case and point , the iPhone 7 plus does not have a MicroSD card slot for wireless charging and it is way behind on several other Standard specs that even mid-range phones have. That said, as an overall package it's still very well executed and there are very few people questioning it's place in the pricing schema of high end phones.

That's the thing though, your argument is wholly subjective. I personally think the XL is the single best Android device ever made. I think the 7 Plus is the single best iPhone ever made. They may not be to others. Some love Samsung and the kitchen sink mentality. My wife adores her S7 edge and wouldn't think of using another Android phone. You also can't force her to use anything Apple at all. Her thoughts that Apple sucks are wholly subjective and her feelings alone. Doesn't mean Apple sucks.

For the longest time Android lovers have begged for something like the Pixel. A phone that is on the same level of an iPhone in build and smoothness and camera. It is just as nice as the 6s Plus I have in my hand. Which also cost over $1k last year. The only thing that the 7 Plus has on the Pixel is water resistance. Which like I've said before, doesn't matter a lick to me, but is important to others. And for someone who loves Android in its purest sense, since most people's complaints about Samsung devices seems to be lag and update issues (things the Pixels don't succumb to), then the Pixel is the best Android phone available.

...and?

I have every right to state my opinion on the matter as much as the next guy.

"fring features"

Except that they're not. A couple of these "fringe features" are so mainstream that some of them are included in this year's iPhone model.

BTW, this is a thread about the iPhone 7 Plus vs the Pixel and I'm stating why the iPhone 7 Plus is the much better phone. For the same price of the Pixel XL 128GB, the iPhone 7 Plus offers water resistance, stereo speakers, 256GB storage, and just as smooth of a software experience. Google is ripping off the consumer and you all are apologetic about it.

Of course you do. But that's the problem... You state your opinions as fact. As the end all be all. And they aren't. That's why people are bothered by it.

Reviewers, who's opinions also aren't the end all be all, say that the Pixel is the best phone. And your response is that they're misleading because you don't think it is the best.

That's fine that you disagree. I completely see your points. For you.

But don't you see the irony in the staunch stance you're taking?

Wait, false. On four fronts. 1. The 128 GB versions are the same price, the 256 GB version is much more expensive. 2. The software is not the same, at all. Google is light years ahead on some aspects of it, while Apple is slightly ahead on some features and they are together on par on most features. 3. No one is being ripped off and no one is apologizing on behalf of Google. 4. This thread may have intended to discuss two phones, but you definitely brought up a third phone in the post I was responding to. You said, "features such as IP67/IP68 rating, wireless charging, microSD card slot, etc." - and there is only one phone with those three features, and it lacks some other important aspects of the other two devices we're talking about. So there is no one phone to rule them all, hence my comment about buying packages, rather than lists.

If there were one phone to rule them all, this industry would rather suck. To me, despite being Samsung's best phones and objectively one of the best on the market, the S7 Edge would never be able to be my first choice because of my disagreement on some of their design choices and their failures at the two actually most important things about phones, software and security.

That's why people are bothered by it.

People are bothered by my opinion? Why?

When it comes down to it, I prefer to get more bang for my buck, and the Phone 7 Plus is obviously the better choice because not only does it have "buttery smooth" (that phrase needs to die a horrible death now), but it also has amazing hardware for a similar price as the Pixel XL.

Because your reading comprehension is terrible. They aren't annoyed because of your opinion that the 7 Plus is the better phone for you. It's more or less because you're in here stating that your opinion matters more than anyone else's. Listen, I get it why you like the 7 Plus better. That's fine and completely understandable. I'm not defending one over the other (FWIW, I'm typing this from my 6s Plus). Because it doesn't matter - everyone should use what works better for them. These are phones. If someone prefers something else, it's fine. There's seriously no use in trying to defend what you use when it may not fit someone else's needs.

Yet, you still didn't answer the question that I've asked you several times. If you knew water resistance, front facing speakers, and photos without lens flare were essential, then why buy the Pixel? Two of those features were no secret upon purchase and you knew they were very important to you. Can you just answer why you'd buy the Pixel?

Most of us would never invest that much cash in something we knew was missing important features.

BTW, there's not a single review that I've read that did not express lack of water proofing and front facing speakers, and large bezels as cons for the Pixel. So, there's nothing misleading if you have decided those factors aren't important. Aside from those cons, the Pixel is an absolute pleasure to use. And, I've found pros with relation to the bezel and the single bottom firing speaker. Water proofing simply isn't a major smartphone feature for many of us. It's rarely a reason to reject a phone because it has no water resistance.
