Pixel Bluetooth issues

Rebooting my phone fixes all of my bluetooth issues. I know that doesn't work for everyone, but it might help some. Once or twice a week, when I start my Tundra, the phone doesn't connect. I can then go into settings and tell it to connect. It will connect, but then SMS and other things no longer work. Now when it doesn't connect, I reboot and it connects just fine and all other functionality works as well.

Yes, rebooting is a short-term solution. Once I reboot I can stream without stutters for awhile but eventually the problem comes back.

Yes, my problem comes back too. But it is a solution none the less. I need to get back into the habit or rebooting daily anyway.

I have over 200 apps on my phone for work and entertainment and I do not have any issues at all. I had my phone getting extremely hot but that was caused by an theme app I was using. Now it is fine on Bluetooth all day in my ears and in the car no problems. No dropped calls at all. Do you guys think that one of your apps may be causing your problems?

I don't seem to be having the frequency of bluetooth issues others are reporting. If I'm listening through bluetooth either headphones, speaker or car I may get a skip every 15-20 minutes and it's pretty brief. Annoying and frankly unacceptable by Google but not a huge deal for me. I do have the bluetooth issue with Ford Sync and the message alerts so I disabled that for now.

I do hope Google gets this resolved or I may not be so quick to support a future Google phone.

Since the problem just started to occur this week I suspect that it has to do with a specific app update.(I have not downloaded new apps recently) Google Play music plays fine in safe mode on bluetooth (but not in regular mode) so your theory is a good one. I spoke to Google and they told me they are quite aware of the problem and they plan on fixing it with an update.

The iPhone works great, even does Bluetooth transfers/handoffs but dies t always like car Bluetooth systems as it attempts to split BT into two parts, Music and Phone. The Pixel is far worse, has zero and I mean zero handoff ability. That is a pss poor design.

This has definitely got me worried since the BT issues on my S7edge are the main reason I ordered a Pixel XL (backordered till Jan 13).

Here is a solution for the Honda Pilot issues that was found by someone on the Pixel User Community Forum. Search for JTHockey17 solution on December 6th. This helped me out with my issues connecting to my Honda Pilot.

As I posted earlier, even after the 7.1.1 update, inbound and outbound calls over Bluetooth still weren't working with my 2016 Honda Pilot Touring.

After piecing together some advice from this forum and reddit, I was able to get it to work. We have a 2016 Honda Accord Touring also that I'll test this on when I get home.

Below are the steps I did. I'm not sure all of these steps are necessary, but it worked for me when simply pairing the phone to the vehicle (with Bluetooth Phonebook installed) didn't.

1. Make sure you're Pixel is running the latest 7.1.1 update.
2. On your phone, go into Bluetooth settings and "forget" your vehicle's connection (probably called HandsFreeLink) by clicking on the gear icon next to it and selecting 'forget'
3. In the vehicle's dashboard, delete all known devices from the Bluetooth Device list
4. In the vehicle's dashboard, go to Bluetooth settings and change your pairing code to '1234'
5. Install the app 'Bluetooth Phonebook (Trial)' on your Pixel (if this works, you can go back and purchase the $1.99 full-version of the app so your phone numbers don't get jumbled)
6. Reboot your phone
7. Turn the car off and back on
8. In the vehicle's dashboard, go to the Bluetooth Devices list and click the button to add a new device. Select your Pixel from the list of available devices. Click the button that pops up on your phone to pair. When the Vehicle asks if you'd like to enable Honda Link, select No.
9. Once the device is Paired, go to Bluetooth settings on your Pixel, click the Gear icon next to your vehicle's connection (HandsFreeLink) and de-select Contact sharing. (Leave Phone audio and Media audio enabled).
10. A message will pop-up at some point on your phone saying your vehicle would like access to your message history, say No.
11. Once the above steps were done, I was able to start a phone call from my device and transfer it to the vehicle as well as start a call directly from the vehicle.
12. If these step worked for you, go download the full version of the 'Bluetooth Phonebook' app so calls started by the vehicle don't have the number jumbled.

Jesus. You would think by now that Bluetooth would be figured out. Mine worked great on all of my devices until recently. Now it's trash. Damn it Google. That's kinda important now. Always something not right. Camera, battery life, Bluetooth. You have money. Hire some people to get **** right. Wtf.

I was using a Windows 8.1 phone for a couple of years and became very accustomed to the great hands free / BT functionality in my car. Went with an Android phone recently thinking that if Windows had a really good BT experience then Google's must be phenomenal. Boy was I wrong! Using a Moto-g the experience has been terrible from what I was used to but figured that the Pixel would be at least on par with Windows phones. Glad I haven't pulled the trigger on purchasing a Pixel yet!

For those that are experiencing the clipping/skipping/popping over BT, does turning wifi off have an effect on the frequency of the skips for you? Mine seems to dramatically reduce the frequency of the skipping with wifi off (tasker profile), though does not resolve it (I thought it did for a couple days, but it came back in reduced frequency).

Ok...now I'm pissed! Had a perfectly good working Pixel (my favorite Android phone ever) and something in the 7.1.1 update or the December patch wrecked my bluetooth connections to our cars. It connects up and stays connected just fine as an Audio device to both of our cars but will not connect as a phone to make calls/use the car speaker on calls, etc.

I've unpaired/repaired many times, cleared storage cache and even tried using the Pixel in SafeMode (Google Support's suggestion) but nothing works. It's infuriating not to have a simple function like bluetooth to make/receive calls in the car which is a major use of my phone for me. Google needs to fix this! It's been long enough!

Similar, before the update messages would show via my Toyota Entune connection, now I have phone and contacts but no longer have access to see or send text messages.

Definitely seems like it is a bad omen that seriously needs to be addressed for those of us that are experiencing connectivity issues of sorts, and some have even gone through replacements several times to no avail. Not every issue is user error or a bad app installed as some seem to think. These are serious issues for those encountering them. Almost every forum I go on I read that Google is aware of all the issues and is addressing them. With this in mind, I would tend to think that these issues are more widespread then people want to believe. If they were happening to a few people it would seem a simple exchange would correct the problem. This bluetooth issue for some has been ongoing almost since day one and it was even claimed to have been corrected as there were several updates that supposedly addressed them. Does not seem the case for everyone though.

Same with the LTE issues that are ongoing. While many don't have any issues with this and never have, some of the ones that did, had things resolved for them with the last update... Others problems still exist. Technology in general is just too inconsistent nowadays it seems

I'm in the process of getting a replacement Pixel XL from Google. I didn't want to go this route, as I think it's a software not hardware issue, but Google insisted. I'll see how it goes.

I just got my replacement XL in today. I immediately connected my Jaybird X3s and had the same Bluetooth skipping issue. Connected to my echo, same issue.

I have the x3s as well and have had a lot of trouble using them with my pixel. Lots of Bluetooth issues in general.

Pixel Bluetooth radios are crap. The problem with these phones. Damn it Google.

No Problems with mine on Bluetooth at all. Works I both of my Acura's and my brothers Mercedes SUV. No problems with my 2 Beats headphones. No skipping and no drop calls. I use it for calls some an hour at a time.
