Pixel & Pixel XL Pricing Rumors

If the rumored prices end up being true, I'm probably going to be forced into the "Well, let's see what kind of Black Friday deals happen" mindset. The 5X got a Black Friday deal, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that the Pixel could too. Otherwise, I've read rumors that the S7/Edge may be significantly discounted, along with other early 2016 flagships.

That's what I'm hoping for. If its good enough, and the price is right I'll buy day 1. I don't see a price drop for the holidays on the Pixel, however, they may toss in a chromecast, play gift card, or VR headset.

If the Pixel is a bust or too expensive, I'll probably just grab a pre-owned S7 on Swappa for about $400.

I haven't financed a phone since 2011, when I was still stuck in carrier plan purgatory. I don't plan to start again now.

It still how most people buy their phones today so there's that...

You're probably right. Seems to be more common now to either throw in something additional for free or give "credit" for trading in your old phone rather than just simply giving a discount. We can hope, though!

I don't know about that,... I have not finnanced a phone ever and I would never finance such a small purchase.. I only know one person who does payments on a phone...

There's a ton of financing going on. Family plans are just one of the reasons.

Kids in high school, going off to college, in college, just graduated, and entering the workforce might not have the cash outright to get one of the most trusted brands. Sammy or Apple. Let them settle into a job, start up with some disposable income and then I can see them buying outright.

If you have few financial obligations and can buy outright, then go for it.

Older folk are less inclined to pay more than what they are used when it comes to services, so if they pay $120...they'll continue that with their upgrade.

So you've never purchased a phone on-contract? Never payed for a phone on an installment plan/device purchase plan?

And never paid for a phone with a credit card? Cash or debit only?

A phone on contract was not payments / financing in the traditional sense but yes I did that in the past... It was $200 up front then a 2-year contract....

Correct... Cash or debit ONLY.. Everything I put on a credit card is paid in full when the bill becomes due.. There is no way, no how I am making payments on a purchase that small. What's next? Finance groceries? It's why we are a nation drowning in debt up to our eyeballs...

My son was the only person I knew who did payments but that ended today.. Instead of getting a new phone on payments he bought an Axon 7 and paid the whopping $400 all at once..

so you have financed a phone in the past, you just didn't know it.

Got it. Thanks.

Nope.... The 2 year contract was not financing but if you want to believe it was, then so be it as I am not about to argue the point..

Financing a phone is a terrible idea for numerous reasons.. If someone does not have the cash to pay for that small of a purchase then maybe they don't need it or should get what they can afford all the while saving up for what they want.... My .02

Financing anything you can buy outright is a terrible idea, but the majority are not spending that kind of cash on a new Galaxy or iPhone. There are too many walking around for that to be true. Payment plans aren't the devil when you approach them with understanding, and can significantly lower the cost of entry on premium items.

I for one, am glad that Google is investigating payment options for Pixel phones.

Here's my rant in full:

Take the Nexus 5X, which is $399 MSRP for the 32 GB. Take out the SD808 processor, give it a processor better than that in the Note 7. Take out the 2 GB RAM, give it 4 GB RAM. Take out the plastic, replace it with metal. Take the IPS screen, as good as it was, and replace it with a next gen AMOLED display. Take LG and all of their muckery out of the equation and replace it with Google calling the shots exactly as they want to see it. Take out the complete lack of decent audio in the 5X and replace it with one of the best amps available. Add into it a new level of software previously hindered by the Nexus partnership. Add in much better security. Add in the ability to buy it from your carrier or on payment plans, etc. Add in the fact that it's the first phone that will be able to support seamless updates (and thus be able to get Android O without some WILD last minute gymnastics by the OEM).

That's not worth a couple extra bucks? It's a like a Nexus 5X that's better in every possible way and is the first mobile phone device that Google seems to actually be invested in.

I said it was a terrible idea and that may have been wrong wording on my part.. I think it's a bad idea.. It's nice that they don't charge interest and all but still.. I've always told and taught my son to keep his monthly bills at a bare minimum and to always have 3 months (minimum) pay saved in the bank.

I didn't mean to sound like I was talking down at people who want to finance their phone so if I came across that way, I apologize.. My point and better wording would be to say that I think it's a bad idea...

Well, when you put it that way..... :D

I'm still gonna wait and see what the Pixel XL has to offer before making a decision.

Yeah I have no interest in the regular Pixel; Pixel XL all the way for me if I get either one.
