Pixel - Signal dropping (Update: Google Knows)

Be sure and give us an update on how the two compare.

Most definitely will. Just checked the Fed Ex status a few minutes ago and my phone is on the truck out for delivery. *Fingers Crossed*

Really kind of hoping although very much unsure if Verizon does any kind of testing on the replacement devices that they issue before they send them out. Would be a bummer to get one worse then my current phone, although I am trying to remain optimistic. They say the 3rd time is a charm. Hoping so in my case

Re: Verizon Pixel XL - Dropping calls?

I compared my Pixel's signal strength with a co-workers iPhone 6, and another's Droid Turbo 2. I got the exact same dBm as they did. Or within 2dbm one way or the other. So when you have a non hollow bar working unit, you should get decent reception.

Re: Verizon Pixel XL - Dropping calls?

I'm on Verizon pixel xl in Brooklyn, NY - no reception issues whatsoever, or any issues for that matter

Re: Verizon Pixel XL - Dropping calls?

I am in Fuquay-Varina, NC near Raleigh. Also on Verizon! I have very strong signal. Never had a dropped call and no Bluetooth issues with my Acura MDX or with any of my headsets. @DJM626 I hope that things work out for you.

Thanks! I do too. My 3rd one here. Not asking for much. All I want is a working phone at this point and hopefully this afternoon I will have just that

I wonder if your phone is on the wrong radio band?
*#*#4636#*#*
Phone information
Three dots menu
Radio band
Choose Cellular 800
I also set my settings to LTE/CDMA Auto PRL
Turn radio off and back on
I assume though you have already tried this. This though is what stopped my hollow bar, it was set to the wrong radio band. I learned about this cuz my stupid video calling provision keeps turning off, and I have to keep going into this menu to turn it back on. Grrdd

Could you please explain to me the difference between the different radio bands that are in this hidden menu?

Well? What's the verdict on the new phone?

Signal wise, it's about on par with my last device. Sometimes it seems to do a little better. Just can't believe all the inconsistencies of this phone for different people. The good thing is my speaker seems to be working without cutting out. Going to give it a few days for the O/S to settle is as it didn't come with the latest one installed.

Only used it to make a few calls and I made sure I was in a area where the signal was strong so it was good as far as that end of it goes. At times, still seeing the hollow bars. Will be prepared to make all calls from home via Wi-Fi though in case there are issues. If this one gives me issues, I think I am just going to pay it off, sell it and move along to something else. Guess I was just so used to having 3 antennas in my old blackberries and I pretty much got spoiled on that, being there is only one in the Pixel

IDK to be totally honest. I am still seeing many with bluetooth connectivity issues, many people on Verizon with as many replacements as the 3 that I have had still experiencing connectivity and LTE issues. Don't know what to think anymore. I know many are not having any such problems which is why it all seems so puzzling. Everyone is getting a different experience in using this phone. I'm also kinda doubtful that those with issues will see any more improvements over what they already have. When the last update came out that said it addressed the LTE issues, I am under the impression that it's now a thing of the past and that Google may not dwell or spend anymore time on these types of things.

Was on the Verizon website today and still seeing recent postings of people that are having dropped calls, LTE issues, other parties not able to hear them. Makes it seem as if nothing was ever done or addressed properly for some people

Google Pixel Phones Get New Android 7.1.1 Build to Fix LTE Connectivity Issues

Google Pixel Phones Get New Android 7.1.1 Build to Fix LTE Connectivity Issues

Google had started rolling out the final Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for compatible Nexus and Pixel devices last week, and it included the company’s monthly security update for December as well. Now, Google has posted a new build of Android 7.1.1 Nougat to the developer site for Pixel and Pixel XL smartphone, aimed primarily at fixing the previously reported connectivity issue on Pixel devices.

Last month, many Pixel phone users were complaining of connectivity issues, particularly on the LTE band 4 frequency. However, many users reported that with the release of Android 7.1.1 Nougat, which brought “general connectivity improvements”, the issue was fixed. But looks like, it wasn’t fixed for all users, and the new build named NMF26Q release 6 looks to do just that.
Google has not officially announced the new build’s release, nor is there any clarity on when it will arrive to Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL devices via an OTA update. But the tech giant has already published Factory and OTA images on its Android Developers site for those users who want the fix installed immediately.
Apart from fixing the LTE connectivity issues, there’s nothing else that this build brings. Therefore, if your Pixel and Pixel XL devices are running smoothly and not facing any connectivity hiccups, we’d recommend you to wait for an OTA update.
Google has also updated its Camera app to bring a revamped UI and a host of camera improvements for Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P devices. A toggle switch for grid lines, and a button for photo modes have been added on the top right edge alongside HDR and flash buttons. The update also loads the app faster, and switches between photo and video modes more quickly. Nexus 6, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P users also get a new Auto-HDR+ mode for better quality shots in low-light areas.

So what's the verdict, you going to wait for the OTA?

Re: Verizon Pixel XL - Dropping calls?

I side loaded the Q OTA on mine, just to be safe. But, my LTE issues were long gone before that. 7.1.1 did fix the Bluetooth/Vehicle text message issue though. And Q did make it run faster, like when it was on 7.0. If your still having hollow bar, I would side load the OTA and see if that finally ends the problem. I finally got my video calling fixed. Seems Verizon had a block on it for some reason. They removed the block, and now my last issue with the phone is gone.

Never side loaded anything before so I am sure I would be totally lost being on a Mac. Will more then likely wait it out. Doing most of my calls on Wi-Fi at home without any issues so far so at least there is that alternative for me

I remember when you had mentioned this awhile back saying that you didn't really notice a lot of difference but you did say that it ran faster like when on 7.0

I usually wait for the official release. Mine gets on lte and falls off intermittently-- not to 3g just to webpage unavailable check connection. I hope there really is a permanent fix coming.

I totally agree with you. I still see a lot of the hollow bar thing and very poor connectivity. As much as I would love to side load this, I am on a Mac and I am sure that would complicate things even more. I really hope that this sees an official release before the Jan update. Too many people I need to contact over the holidays and won't always be around to take advantage of wi-fi calling when I am out

I've been reading through this thread because I'm about done with my XL. I posted about this on Reddit the other day, then found this thread, so I'll link my post from there for an explanation of what I'm experiencing.

https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixe...tunately_im_going_to_have_to_return_my_pixel/

I decided to wait on the return over the long weekend and test out the connectivity issues I'm having (I've got until January 4th to return). As you can see from the Reddit post, I'm on AT&T and using the app LTE Discovery, I've found that my area of central Kentucky uses Band 2, 4, and 17 with 4 seeming to be the most used. I get intermittent drops of signal every few minutes (complete drop outs, not just falling back to 3G). The signal comes back within 10-15 seconds, sometimes to 3G and sometimes to LTE.

I really don't want to return the phone as I love it, but if it won't function first and foremost as a phone, then it's pretty useless, especially for the premium price I paid. So I figure I can either return it and go back to my Moto Z or stick it out and hope Google releases a real fix for it.

Anyone else on AT&T experiencing the same thing? As a last resort, tomorrow I'm gonna grab a new sim from them and see if they'll push a PRL update to me (this was suggested on Reddit). If those don't work, I guess I'm done.

I totally feel your pain. Same issues for me as you described only I am on Verizon. Tried everything possible to no avail with mine. Just for the record the few people that posted to *228 on Verizon does not work on this phone. When you do that, you receive a message on your screen that reads "A SIM card has activated your service and updated your phones roaming capabilities" so that is hardly the solution to the problem

Just happened to check out the LG V20 forum...Some reports of bad signal strength on VZ there as well.. coincidence?

Could be but some on Sprint and AT&T are experiencing the same thing so to me it doesn't seem like it is totally isolated. I have read about a lot of new phones with this issue. Is technology too far advanced that carriers can't keep up with it? Buggy software? Who knows. I just think two months in without any kind of permanent fix is a bit much.

Now there are more issues cropping up for some people as well. My phone started freezing up the past 3 days and the only thing that corrects it is a reboot.
