Yeah, considering that Samsung is updating S6 edge phones to Nougat, that's not really a differentiator.

There is not even an argument that can be made when it comes to updates. Google wins hands down no matter how you slice it.

By far. The S6 just received 7.0 and will not receive another update. The S7 only received 7.0 2 months ago while the Pixel received 7. 0 7 months ago and is now on 7.1.2. The S7 might get 1 more update. There are even some of the S7 variations that are still on 6.0.1. Even though the S8 was just released, it was with 7.0. The Pixel will receive 8.0 as soon as it is available and will more than likely be on 8.X.X before the S8 even sees 8.0. Even though the S8 was just released it will always be behind in updates to the Pixel which was released over a half of a year earlier.

Google has you current for 3 years, given that they start on the most recent release - and that's nearly 6 months before the S devices get it. Pixels also have been able to be on the O dev preview for the past 7 weeks or so. If Samsung guarantees 2 years of major updates, 3 years of security updates and knocks down whatever barrier is causing them to either be late or skip updates entirely, then they'd be roughly the same.

I do realize that. I was just pointing out to zipro, who said that there was no differentiator between the two, that there was. Unless you feel that Samsung and Google are equal in regards to updates, I don't understand what you are trying to say.

Google clearly states that the Pixel is guaranteed to have Android version updates until October 2018 and security updates until October 2019. Given that this is May 2017, you have guaranteed one year and five months of Android version updates, and two years and five months security updates from today.

So essentially it's guaranteed fully up to date from 10/2016 to 10/2019, and then when 10/Q comes out in 2019, it is no longer guaranteed.

Has Google confirmed that P will be released at the end of 2018 and Q end of 2019?

Assuming there are no point releases in that time....which as we know based on history there most definitely will be. Will be interesting to see if they bother pushing those to the Pixel after the guaranteed two year time period is expired.

They didn't with the Nexus 6, but that's a Nexus not a Pixel so doesn't give us much data. But not sure we can count missing a point update, otherwise the S8 started off way behind and never will be caught up. If we consider the S8 to be "up to date", then the Nexus 6 is too and the Pixel will be for 3 full years from when it launched. If we consider the S8 to be outdated, then the 6 is and Pixel likely will be too.

I like that the pixel runs stock android, but in my opinion the s8 is better because the boost the snapdragon 835 processor it has and that it has a bezel less screen that looks great.

I hear you....I have both the S8+ and Pixel XL. The design of the S8+ is just so nice! i just can't put it down. I forced myself to use my Pixel for a half day a couple days ago.....it was painful to be honest.
The Pixel is a great phone to be sure but it can't compete with the S8 imho.
