Please advise: Just got Note 4 last night with AT&T. Many issues. Lemon or ??

Re: Please advise: Just got Note 4 last night with AT&T. Many issues. Lemon or ??

"Lollipop hasn't had that many updates, because it doesn't need it."

On that point I disagree with you. To me Google realizes Lollipoop is a failure and that's why M is attempting to address the shortcomings.

Remember, it's not my opinion, it's my experience w/ Lollipoop & what Google themselves have now stated.

You had a good experience w/ Lollipoop I didn't. Google removed basic OS functionality & I flat out don't like the large notifications. I eagerly look forward to M I hope as I'm certain Google is as capable of botching M as they did Lollipoop. Given all Google's hoopla in advance of the Lollipoop release including better battery life I will always say it was complete failure. Now Google says battery life was decreased in Lollipoop so it's far from just my experience/phone. I'll live with Lollipoop until the 5.1 release & if I continue to have issues roll back to Kit Kat 4.4.4. I'd rather spend more time rolling back to Kit Kat & knowing all my issues will be resolved than factory resetting Lollipoop and hoping they'll be resolved and still having an OS I don't like.

M is on normal schedule. Not much more to say.. YMMV.

I'm pretty sure "Google" thinks, insofar as it as an entity is capable of having a thought or opinion regarding lollipop, believes lollipop to the be the pinnacle of mobile computing as of 2014.

And they're not scrapping LP and starting over. They're building on the success of LP to make further improvements and addressing some of the things that didn't go as well. That's not an "oh, fail, guess this sucked and we suck so we'll give up". This is what they do literally every year. They release a product, improve it gradually and then use what they're learning to release a better product later. The first day that the teams over there get the thought, "Oh, this is good enough. Guess we're done creating new ideas..." is the last day we'll have any way to benefit from them.

Every version builds upon the last and every version so far has been a major improvement over the last. This year they're following the exact same pattern as last year, so if we cut through the hyperbole and suggest that releasing a developer preview is an indication of a prior version's massive failure in the eyes of its creators, then that follows that Lollipop was Google's way of saying that Kit Kat was a gigantic failure. The argument in both cases is ridiculous. The new OS isn't commentary on the last, it is a vision of the next.

Re: Please advise: Just got Note 4 last night with AT&T. Many issues. Lemon or ??

When I spoke to AT&T tech support about it I was told 5 Mbps was their download speed, mine was in the upper 4 range. I'm in a large metropolitan area. My phone does what I need it to do incl. USB tethering through Foxfi/PDA.net and runs my Lenovo Helix hybrid laptop fine so I'm not concerned but when you see others incl. yourself post speeds considerably higher it just must be AT&T needs to seriously upgrade their 4G/LTE network is my locale. I know they just upgraded to HD voice which caused all kinds of phone call problems for a couple of months & I don't notice any difference in the phone call quality but the download speed is a non-issue for me.

Just like Kit Kat, on my phone if it's not broken don't fix it.

Whoever told you that gave you inaccurate information. Att 4GLTE deployment is capable of speeds way over 5mbps. Even a 5+5mhz carrier is rated at 37.5mbps peak, and I believe that that is the smallest that att uses. A 20+20mhz carrier is capable of speeds up to 150mbps, such as Verizon xlte here in LA. I have personally seen 138mbps on Verizon.

To me Google is doing the same thing w/ the M OS MS is w/ Windows 10, correcting the mistakes they made in Win 8 & introducing new features.

When you say every OS has been a major improvement over the previous one I totally disagree. Removing basic functionality is an improvement?? The removal of icons in the taskbar area on the lockscreen is akin to the removal of start in Win 8. Making the notifications so large you have to dismiss some to read others is not a major improvement it's a major pain. Not being able to dismiss a vm notification w/o listening to the vm (or at least a small part of it) is not a major improvement it's a drawback. For the way I use my phone there is absolutely nothing about Lollipop that is a major improvement, only reduced basic functionality & major problems like no fast charge in my car anymore & can't answer an incoming call on the speakerphone.

Google isn't "thinking" on an abstract corporate level one of their spokespersons is stating M will correct the reduced battery life Lollipop has. That is a direct commentary on Lollipop (as direct as it could possibly be) as well as a vision of the future.

Re: Please advise: Just got Note 4 last night with AT&T. Many issues. Lemon or ??

I didn't like the removal of the start button, but many were fine with it.

I dismiss all my voicemail notifications. If your voicemail notification isn't going away, you need to talk to AT&T, that is a network issue. I've had it happen once after lollipop, several times before lollipop. Each time, I called 611 and had it removed.

No control over the heads up notifications is not good and many have complained.

The entire point two was made, way back.. Google is releasing M at the normal time. The timing has zero to do with Google saying that Lollipop is bad.

Battery life has been corrected with other upgrades also. Everyone isn't having battery life issues with Lollipop.

I suppose when the OP asked "Any thoughts?" they sorta asked for it but this thread.... I wonder if they got anything useful out of the replies LOL.

Hopefully they did. People either hate Lollipop or are fine with it, but even all issues aren't Lollipop issues. Also there are carrier issues that aren't Lollipop, but things carriers have added or removed.

The OP's issue has more to do with Comcast IMO, that has been a known issue with Lollipop, nit the Note 4 and that is Comcast, not Lollipop.

Just like Windows and drivers have to be updated many times with new OS releases, and all companies don't do it in a timely manner.

Many thanks to all. I took the phone back. AT&T person said lots of people have no issues but a lot do have. I had a choice of replacing it with another phone the same model. This phone is much better in most respects to but still so mysteries like whcome st emails come through but not all.

I would suggest you start a thread with the questions and issues you have.

Remember, you can set up all notifications, some notifications or no notifications. The phone is highly customizable and between users and team members, there is bound to be someone that knows how to get what action you want.

I'm very familiar with AT&T and some tricks to get to people higher up the chain, I've been with them for years. I'm still learning about my Note 4, but I'm also very familiar with Samsung and dealing with them. I have only owned Samsung phones since the Galaxy S came out.

There is still a Comcast issue with Lollipop, but there are many people on here with Comcast and know many fixes and work around if you are still having issues.

Today, my Lollipop battery on my AT&T Note 4. I generally get about 16 to 18 hours, but have used my phone heavily today. As you can see, Lollipop hasn't ruined my battery life.
