I've been using a popular app called File Manager+ on my Android Phone for over 10 years straight. It has never messed up a single time in 10 years. I was using it to listen to music saved on my phone today, like I do everyday. Then suddenly, once I tapped on the song it gave me an error that says "Mediaplayer Error 1 (-2147483648)". It won't play the songs effected by the error, but it will play other songs. I have like 9000 songs saved on my phone, so I don't know exactly how many are effected. But like I said before, I used this app for 10 years without a single problem ever happening. So the weirdest part, is why did it instantly just start acting up. Nothing has changed. Most importantly, does anyone know how to fix this error? My android specs are below:

Google Pixel Smartphone 9
Android version 16
Build number BP4A.260105.004.E1

FYI, here's the contact info for the app developer: app.support@alphainventor.com
THANK YOU VERY KINDLY!!!! I did email the app developer and told them everything. I also gave them all the specs of the app and my android phone to help them diagnose it. We will see if they have a solution. I hope so because I use the app non-stop everyday. As I mentioned before, I used the app for 10 years without a single error ever happening. That's the most frustrating part. It's perfectly fine for 10 years then BOOM, it instantly starts acting weird for no reason.

Try clearing the apps cache then Force Stop it , also try a reboot.
Yes I did try that. I cleared the cache and all data of the app and rebooted my android. To be perfectly honest, I didn't think it would work at all. But to my surprise, it actually fixed the error temporarily. The app started playing music again. But 2 seconds later, the error was back and songs wouldn't play. But I just emailed the app developer to explain the issue and ask for a solution.

So, the large minus number within the Mediaplayer Error 1 (-2147483648) . That is the largest negative value of an INT data type. If I had to guess, one of the values for the program exceeded what it was expected to handle.

You've used the app for 10 years. Did you have all 9k songs on the device?

Let's see what they say but this app seems like a file manager not for playing music from what I was reading in app description, wouldn't you need something like VLC player?

Yes it is a file manager app. I love it and I've used it for 10 years because it lets me control all my music, photos, and document file from 1 simple app. So it's just very convenient and the interface is super easy to use. I don't need anything like VLC player. I've always assumed that the app has some kind of media player built-in into it. Or the app uses the media player that comes automatically installed with the smartphone. All I really know, is that I just need to tap on a song and it instantly starts playing.

I'm not sure what "INT Data Type" means? I'm a real novice when it comes to technical things and software. Are you able to explain in lame men terms so my dumb brain can understand? Lol. To answer your other question, I haven't always had 9K songs on my smartphone and I didn't always have the same smartphone of course. I upgrade my phone to a newer model about every 2 years. I used to be with Samsung Galaxy phones, then I tried switching to Google Pixel phones. I probably had 5K or 6K songs like 10 years ago. Over the years, I've added thousands of songs. But I've had 9K songs for quite awhile now, probably for 2 or 3 years.

Welcome to Android Central! It'd probably be best to contact the app developer about this.

I'll move this to the pixel 9 forums to see if any members use this app on their pixel.

BIG UPDATE. I emailed the app developer and they emailed me back and said the -1 number indicates an "unknown error". They said their app FILE MANAGER+ uses the android's multi-media engine to play audio files, it doesn't have an audio player itself. I also installed the VLC MEDIA PLAYER app but it experiences the same problem with playing audio files. Which means the problem definitely isn't caused by the File Manager+ app, because other apps experience the same problem too. The problem is probably much deeper and it's caused by the android operating system (maybe). But if the problem is caused by the android operating system, then EVERY android user in the world should be experiencing this error because we all use the same operating system. But I haven't heard of anyone else having this error. Just one more thing, I also tried deleting all the audio files and adding to the phone all over again. But that didn't do anything. The audio files might just be corrupted, which is why the don't work with ANY app at all. I don't know why thousands of files would suddenly become corrupted for no reason though, because nothing changed. These files have worked fine for years. So it's just confusing.

It may be that the specific music file somehow became corrupt. Are you able to replace the current file on your phone with another copy from the original source and see if it works?

I'm not sure what "INT Data Type" means?
From a normal user's POV, it's not really important. I just wanted to clarify why someone would look at that number and wonder why that specific number.

A data type in programming is something that needs to be declared with a variable. There are several different types (INT for Integer, Float for decimals, Strings for characters, etc). A programmer needs to predefine these ahead of time. My name 'Golfdriver97' can't be an INT because it isn't a number. So a variable can be:

S tring username = 'Golfdriver97' (this sentence is broken up intentionally)

INTs range from -2,147,483,648 to 2,147,483,647 (also accounting for 0, that's why positive is one number less).

As someone who knows some code, the large negative number (and after a moment, I was like that looks familiar) screamed to me that it was like an overflow error somewhere.

Are you able to explain in lame men terms so my dumb brain can understand?
Not trying to belittle you or anything like that. I wasn't sure if you wanted a bird's eye view of my reaction or if you wanted nitty gritty like I just explained. These circumstances I often go for bird's eye view. Saves me typing, and people often don't want elaboration.

No worries at all. It's completely cool. I never thought you were belittling me or anything. So it's completely cool. Did you read the "BIG UPDATE" message that I posted on here just a few hours ago? I believe I tagged you when I posted it. It contains a lot of information about the error, because I spoke with the app developer over email and they explained a few things to me. I also did some bug testing on my own which revealed some important clues. I included all that info in the message I posted, which I tagged you in. It starts with the words "BIG UPDATE".

So the key thing is some song work and others don't and tried two different Media players so most likely those certain songs were corrupted or damaged, delete couple of them an download again see if everything works.

I did see it that post. I thought I included this upcoming as part of my other post, but I didn't:

For the error: Did you copy the entire error code? If they truly said a -1 code means <whatever they replied>, by all technicalities a error code -2147483648 is different.
