Please recommend a ROM to me

Okay, I've made it up to page 500 of the official BakedSnack thread. I'm less than a month behind, now. :p

It's still fairly depressing reading. It's pretty much nothing but complaints, since the people that are happy tend to stay quiet.

Still waiting for Unrevoked 3.2 to "go live" again. They've got about 12 days before I get my phone, so I hope they get their acts fully together by then. :)

I used the Unrevoked beta and everything went fine. I justed loaded Backed Snack 1.7 and my phone is running very smooth at 1.2G OC. Seems smooth but I have downloaded Fresh 3.2 and put it on the phone and may flash it in a few days. I may try the AC-ROM also. I guess I got the OS bug I used to have with the BBs back now that I got over the fear of flashing ROMs. LOL

Wondering who else is running the stock kernel that came with Baked Snack and not have issues being OC. Anyone?

FYI. In the span of two weeks I have gone from Vaelpak 2.1 to cyanogen to baked snack to fresh.

After playing with each I'm now back to Vaelpak. By and far my favorite. It just seems smoother than the others and I easily have the best battery life with it. I prefer the slide swipe lock screen and really enjoy the launcher options. By and far the easiest access to the developer and best additional features.

I highly recommend.

I haven't tried as many ROMs as you but since starting with all of this I have found that the combo I have now has been the most stable and best battery life... Predictability is a big deal when you need your phone and the VaelPak 2.1 is reliable and stable (although I did have to re-flash the Kings #8 instead of 9 because it slowed things down). Also, you are correct when you talk about the responsiveness of the developer. That is what is really awesome about this ROM Vaelek does not say "use at your own risk"... he takes the time to work with you and answer questions to be sure that his ROM works and will post zip fixes almost immediately when he can...

To anyone interested I would recommend it as it will continue to grow and expand because Vaelek is dedicated to doing it and works hard...
Check out the link in my sig for more info on the ROm and check out the thread here on XDA..

And NO, I do not get paid for saying good things, just appreciate true dedication and think he deserves some more recognition for his great work!

Made it up to page 600 of the Baked Thread. Oh, the drama. Hero_Over started giving advanced access to people that had donated, and the poop hit the fan. I'm still a few weeks behind in the thread, but the pace of updates seems to have ground to a near standstill. In addition to the hurt feelings, Hero has also started building Epic ROMs, so I'm not sure he'll be giving the Evo much attention going forward.

That said, BS 1.7 is probably a fine ROM, and I'm really just looking for something that will get me through a 2 week vacation with minimal excitement. After I come back, I can start playing with all the other ROMs.

(I did donate to Hero_Over, so I can follow the threads over on BakedSnachShack.com as well. Joy. More threads.)

Just out of curiousity. Does Wifi work on baked snacks...

YES... WiFi works just fine on Baked Snack (or at least in my use)

Hey I donated to Hero_Over and I don't have no special access.. :p I truly like his ROM and Vaelpak for a nonsense ROM (Donated to both) just flipped between the two to figure out which one I really want to keep as my regular everyday ROM....

Sorry if this question has been asked b4 but after I have installed BS 1.7 do I still need to install a Kernel to remove the fps cap?? I thought that was in the ROM already.

VirusRom

1st - I used the unrevoked 3.21 beta method. It worked just fine on my phone.

2nd - When you use the unrevoked method, this installs the ClockWork recovery. So, you're going to need to manually flash the RA recovery, if you want that. The only methods i know of that allow you to do this require the .76 hboot, which you'll have to flash yourself. All this does is allow you to run fastboot commands, which is an easy method of flashing the RA recovery.

3rd - I actually have VirusRom running on my phone. With the KingxClick 7 CFS kernel. FPS unlocked, sprint bloatware removed, amazingly stable, good battery. He also has a few themes that work with this Rom, so you have a bit of choice coming out the gate. I recommend giving it a look - Here.

Also, a quick note - when flashing things to the phone. It's a good practice to wipe Cache and wipe the Dalvik-cache each time.

The Kernal that comes preloaded with Baked Snack should free up the Fps cap. I get 54 Fps on my EVO and I just flashed the ROM and use the Kernal that comes with the ROM..... If it's still capped I can't begin to tell you what might have happened....

I was looking at the XDA thread and noticed he had the roaming indicator on all his pics. Is this a bug, or is he just roaming?

It's not roaming..... The roaming symbol is different... He is running Manups theme (which I am as well)

at first I thought I was roaming too which was odd since I live in Nashville, TN and have never roamed before.... But I do travel and I do roam from time to time and the symbol for roaming is a solid triangle where as the regular 3G symbol in this theme is slightly different....

They should use a different symbol I guess.... I even had to go back and look at the stock symbol which is basically a 3G and then your bars.... Weird.. Oh and I double checked my bill... No roaming data so it's just the theme..

I should have recognized that theme, I am running it also. Does the ROM come with that theme, I really don't want that indicator.

Now that we can easily root stock 2.2, I decided to give a custom ROM a try and went with this one on yours and others' recommendation (after you tried lots of them). Went with the Kings #8 on the recommendation of another in this thread.

All I can say is WOW. Totally smooth and fast... is the fps cap removed on this? And to get rid of Sense is a feeling of freedom.

I probably did this much harder than you guys who have done it often. I did a nandroid backup (so I could go back if I didn't like it), and did an app/settings backup with Titanium. I restored the apps and most came back with their settings intact (thankfully), but there was still a ton of work setting up my screens again, adding widgets, etc. There has to be an easier way, as this took me hours.

And when an upgrade comes out... do I have to wipe again and go through all this, or can I install right over the current version?

Ha, I know... looks like I have some reading up to do. I'll do it. But thanks for the tips!

You shouldn't have to Wipe again unless you want to...

Easiest way to fix your issues on initial set up is dont put so much krap on the screens...

Simple is better in my opinion and if youre going to start flashing alot more often less will help

You should usually only back up apps with titanium no settings

Restoring setting in a Rom can cause issues and force closings

I should have recognized that theme, I am running it also. Does the ROM come with that theme, I really don't want that indicator.

Yeah at first that indicator annoyed me because I thought I was roaming and shouldn't have been.. But now I am use to it....

You can search around and run any theme you want (or almost any theme you want) All the Theme is doing is changing the look... It's not really any thing else... Smooth Sense is a pretty good theme...

That is the fun part of being rooted is you can change and adjust things and go back if need be.. Just do a back up before you flash a new one and if you don't like the new one just go back to the old one and don't back up the current theme...

Good times...

So when an upgrade of my current ROM comes out, all I have to do is install it over my current one? And it will retain all my apps, settings, and screens?

I did back up all the settings, but I only restored the apps. I was afraid of what you mentioned above. There were some settings that were "green" in color in Titanium (such as bluetooth pairings) and I restored some of them and they worked great. Tried to restore browser bookmarks, but wasn't so lucky... the browser looks different, so that may be it. Luckily, Titanium retained all my setup of my applications... such as logins, and connections to data on the SD card, so that worked great.

Yea you should be able to just flash right over your current... as long as its the same Rom just updated...

Note Devs do post on the Rom Thread if Wipe is required over current...
