Please recommend a ROM to me

Sorry if this question has been asked b4 but after I have installed BS 1.7 do I still need to install a Kernel to remove the fps cap?? I thought that was in the ROM already.
I believe that all Baked Snack ROMs come with a kernel that unlocks the FPS cap. In particular, BS 1.7 comes with Kernel #6.

From the OP of the Baked Snack thread:

1.7
-Updated completely to the new ota (thank flipzmode for leak)
-using kernel #6
-more improvements to video recording (now there isnt need for a fix)
-removed ad blocking hosts file (no need for fix)
-misc tweaks for better internet speed
-faster with new improvements from ota
-also battery improvements from ota
-visual voicemail fixed
-removed qik because update from market will not install
-added sprint promotion to sdcard (for those who use their phone to pay bills) (use if you get force close on *2)
-added teeter to sdcard
-extra htc widgets will now download and install
-all phone codes should work
-added htcime mod for those who use it

Baked Kernel #6: (Best Battery)
-using HAVS voltage regulator
-using netarchy/assassins fps fix *thanks guys for your hard work*
-overclocked to 1.267ghz *remember that overclocks over 1.113ghz may not work for you*
-set read ahead value to 4k which results in faster boot
-5 point multitouch *thanks ffolkes*
-tweaked audio gain for louder handset speaker
-tweaked cpu scaling for better responsiveness
-reserverd 5mb to gpu memory *thanks aosp*
-more tweaks to graphics for better performance with 3d/2d
-conservative governor
-tweaked havs to scale more frequently to ensure lowest voltage
-bfq scheduler
-default to 3point if five touch is unsuccessful (fixes no touchscreen issue)
-adjusted camera clock to allow for faster video recording framerate

Okay, I'm going to continue to use this thread for my dumb questions...

I think my plan is coming together. Unrevoked 3.21 has released, and continues to sound both quick and fairly idiot-proof. Here's my plan as it sits today. Please speak up if you see that I'm about to do something desperately stupid. :)

  1. Go pick up my Evo at the Sprint store.
  2. Get home, and do any activation-type activities, if they haven't already been done at the store.
  3. Jot down the various ROM versions the phone is running by default. Just for future reference. Radios, PRIs, all that jazz.
  4. Open a beer. Have a sip for luck.
  5. Run through the Unrevoked 3.21 process.
  6. Wipe
  7. If the above process leaves me running Clockwork recovery, flash RA recovery "over the top".
  8. Nandroid backup. Keep backup on the phone for possible emergency use "on the road".
  9. Wipe
  10. Flash Baked Snack 1.7, with the included #6 kernel
  11. Success? Make another backup. Drink beer. Failure? See next list.
  12. Pack
  13. Sleep
  14. Go to Hawaii

And here's my OMG FAILURE!!1 list, to be executed only in the event that BS looks janky right out of the gate. (Boot loops, catastrophic performance issues, serious functionality problems, etc.)

  • Wipe. Reflash BS 1.7. Think positively. Wipe some more, for luck.
  • Still failing? Flash the KingKlick BFS 9 kernel over the top of BS. (Any other suggested "backup ROMs"?)
  • Still failing? Flash my stock-rooted backup back on to the phone.
  • Still have some time? Try flashing a modded kernel onto the stock ROM. It's better than nothing, right?

Unless the unrevoked process tells you to wipe somewhere along the way, there is no need to wipe twice. Root it, do a Nandroid backup, then wipe it and prepare to flash your custom ROM. I just flashed Baked Snack, and so far it's great. Just got the donor version or Titanium Backup.

On a note about kernel #6 being included in baked snack 1.7, I flashed bs 1.7 using ROM manager and when I go to about phone>software under kernel I have listed : 2.6.32.15HeroMod hero@hero-over#2. So...does this mean I have #2 and not #6? Confused..

I was confused over that too but confirmed it is indeed BS kernel #6

FrEak E FroYo seems to be a good one, might wanna check that out. I had the previous version before the 2.2 update and I loved it!!

Is there away i can download BS kernel #6 without flashing the BS Rom itself?? I want to keep my stock ROM.

After the nandroid back up I would also download Rom manager it comes with a lot of roms already on it.

Thanks, sasha.

I'm not super-interested in ROM Manager, because you are forced to use the Clockwork recovery in order to get the full experience. I may play with it after I get back. It does sound very convenient.
