I'm more annoyed by the reasons Sprint offered for the extra $10 than the charge itself.

A "richer data experience" when not in a 4G area?

My Sprint Palm Pre has a very rich data experience and yet I'm not paying $10 extra. Or how about a faster processor, better camera, etc..

When did a carrier think it could charge monthly fees for advances in manufacturer hardware vs carrier upgrades? Does your broadband provider charge more because you have a faster computer?

Ugh, Dan Hesse was doing so well with Sprint's customer relations.

Now let me tell you how Sprint differs. I use about 6,000 per month. Only 77 of those (last month) were to home phones. You know what this means? If Sprint didin't have that mobile to mobile (any mobile) plan, I would be paying $100 per month, instead of saving $30 and going with the $70 plan. And actually, here are the ACTUAL calculations:

Sprint $70 (80 for Evo) includes 450 analog phone minutes + unlimited cell phone minutes + unlimited messaging + unlimited web + unlimited GPS navigation + unlimited SPrint TV + unlimited NFL Live + unlimited Nascar + unlimited Sprint music. (on Evo its also +video chat + youtube HQ)

Now let me tell you the equivalent on the other plans:
Verizon's unlimited plan (because the 70 plan for Sprint is pretty much unlimited) is $120 for unlimited minutes, messaging and web. Then, add $10 for navigation + $10 for the little Vcast tv thingy.

ATT? Same as above.
T-Mobile?
Their unlimited plan is at $100. But does not include the extras, which are also $10 a piece. For a much smaller 3G network. So $120

So we are looking at $140 PLUS TAX for ONE line per month. I have two lines on Sprint... unlimited... and I pay $140. For two lines.

THAT is the equivalent plan. Noone in their right mind would compare Verizon's littel 450 min plan with Sprints 450 minute plan because they are two different monsters. Sprint is giving you an unlimited experience plus more.

So Verizon and ATT are $140 for equivalent. T-Mobile is $120 for equivalent. Sprint? $70 or $80 with Evo. I will stick with sprint.

I sell ALL of these companies. I work at a franchise radioshack. The company does not sell Verizon but some stores do. I can tell you outright that Sprint has the best value BY FAR. There's no justifying it.

Thats just your senerio but to compar apples to apples is Sprint 450 plan to competitors 500 minute plan as that is the closest and you may talk mainly to mobile but the rest of the country still has home phones as well. Think about that and also think about that AT&T and Verizon are more expensive then sprint but are still gaining customers every month while sprint is loosing them and reasons like this for adding unexplained fees is one reason for that, also please don't mention unlimited GPS navigation + unlimited SPrint TV + unlimited NFL Live + unlimited Nascar + unlimited Sprint music cause all that crap is the reason why I root my phones in order to get rid of their crap which is how most people feel. Walk around and ask 100 people how many use sprint tv or nfl like and you'll get like 1 response, its just that sprint doesn't give you the option NOT to take it.

BINGO that's exactly what I'm saying.

Right on

This just proved that you are completely stupid.

Ok let me explain why your stupid. HTC Created a device thats more powere and has 4G, sprint is charging extra for you to own the device because it supports 4G but for 99% of the people buying it it has no impact and as a matter of fact I probably wont see 4g in my area for another 2 years or so its completely outrages.

If you guys want to debate the topic at hand then great, but knock off the flaming.

Since this is a such a good coment and probably the best one I've read I have reposted this on the androidforums website as well.

Like I said, I sell these phones. So I have probably spoken to more customers from any network than you have, and I can tell you that the little "extras" as indeed used by the customer. YOU might not like them, but others use them. I use a LOT of the navigation, everyday almost. I also use a lot of the NFL and a lot of the TV and Music. NOt daily, but I use it.

I have not met a single casual user that has gone over the 450 with that plan. You cannot compare the Verizon 500 minute plan with Sprints. Sprints gives you a near unlimited experience. Like I said, if they didn't have that, I would have to purchase the $100 plan. Instead, I save 30 bucks. Good deal I think. And i also think that mostly everyone that has sprint has the $70 plan because really: how many house phones does one call these days????

The charge won't stop me from buying the phone, however it's a little annoying. But hey, for what the phone is... I still think it's worth it.

I don't like the $10 charge anymore than the rest of you, but you know... I think that it's worth the services. I don't mind giving Sprint an extra $10, because they are offering a great deal in the phone and a great deal of a network. It is incredibly fast for both 3G and 4G and the EVo offers a lot of services that take up large amounts of data. This pleases me that there is no cap on either the 3G or 4G usage, since I will be using video chat quite a bit on 3G and I will definitely take advantage of the huge screen and its compelling browser experience.

WHat I DO mind, however, is the $30 for hotspot. I was willing to pay extra, sure, but I was not expecting Verizon-like prices. I was expecting $20 at MOST. That was a feature I was very excited about.

quite a few house phones plus how many work phones or businesses do you call cause they are not included, My wife calls me at work on my work phone quess what I'm using my minutes. Your coment is for you personally and not the average user and I think I have more proof which is Sprint has 1/2 of the customers AT&T and Verizon have.

I hope they offer a version with no front facing camera, no 720p recording, and no video chat -- without the 10 bucks a month surcharge. This way everyone that claims they wont be using more bandwidth with this phone can use that model instead, and be right.

hahaha good one, why do I stop to give those bums my dollar, not doing that anymore.

Here is why the 10 bucks is so disappointing:

1. This is just another smartphone. It will already start to be outdated in 6 months just like any other smartphone. Dual core snapdragons are slated to be in phones by the end of this year. It's technology, the top never stays on top. Will you still want to pay 10 bucks a month when your phone is outdated? I love the EVO but this is true folks. Look at every phone that has ever come out.

2. Most people live in 3G areas and will not see HD vids on the internet. They will not be able to send people HD vids via mms email etc. They will be pixalated just like on the iPhone on 3G. The 10 bucks is for nothing if you live in 3G.

3. The CEO said it was cheaper to produce a gig of data over 4G than on 3G. He said it would be free. Now he comes out with this $10 charge. It makes him a liar and as someone thinking to switch TO Sprint for the EVO, I am not sure I can trust Sprint. I for one need to be able to trust that my service will be what the provider says it will.

4. If you are in a 3G area and you pay for the everything data, you have already paid the 30 bucks a month that other companies charge for unlimited internet etc. You are paying for the "enhanced" experience already and then again if you are paying 10 bucks on top of that. It's like buying a soda at 7-11 and then getting charged again if you want to drink it. BS.

5. Sprint has to produce 4G signal. I applaud them for doing it first, but the fact of the matter, if you want to be a cell phone company in the US, you have to have 4G. The other cell phone companies will be providing 4G as well. It is just the way of doing business in the cell phone industry. Instead of holding 4G and the EVO over your head as extortion to get 10 bucks per month, it should be just a normal day of business. Every other cell phone company is trying to provide the best phone and 4G service ( eventually ) and they won't charge this. They will welcome the new customers and upgrades for it.

6. Related to 5 but whatever. Wimax is doing Sprint a favor more than it is doing the customer. They will save money in the long run using 4G over 3G as it is a cheaper technology that can produce data and handle more data for less money. Why should I invest money into a nest egg for Sprint? I pay for my service and they make money from that...No need to 4G tax me.

2G : 20
3G: 30
4G: 40
5G: 50?

IMO, Sprint Navigation is very much a moot point on an Android phone that has access to the Google Maps with navigation.

Google maps sucks for nav by the way. Its good for looking up things on a map like addresses and the like, but for turn by turn directions it falls short compared to the sprint nav. Plus with sprint nav you can look up things like gas by price which is always cool.
