The resale value would of been great on EVO if they charged us more skipping the 10.00 gotch ya charge.
A year down the road you wont be able to give it away lol.

Those playing we love Sprint no big deal $10.00 charge will change their tune soon.

Not mine! I don't mind the 10/month charge. Every other carrier would cost me a bunch more for what I need on my family plan(Smartphone data/unlimited text on 5 lines). Can't blame some people for being sour though, but that Any Mobile, Anytime stuff is pretty awesome. I never use my anytime minutes now!

Why? Its $10. I have two lines and plan to drop one. Im going from $120 to $80 to get this phone.

You want 4G, this is what it costs, you want less for less move on.

The device will be a dinosaur in a year with resale value very low due price being so low from the onset.
Then figure in 10.00 charge buyer has to take on you will be lucky to get throw around change from them on resale.
Basically your getting little to nothing back on your investment , device and service if your 3G-ing it...you've lost money.
You are getting that ground breaking EVO thrill though.

That thrill will fade with many up in arms crying foul with Sprint sinking deeper into their own mess in a year or so.

Smart move on their part would have been to charge $600.00 for the thing no $10.00 monthly reacquiring which would keep resale high that way upgrade could have been achieved with consumer getting something back.
Smart phone geeks like are selves thrive on it....hmm Well you dont seem to be in the loop hope you learned something.

I hope they offer a version with no front facing camera, no 720p recording, and no video chat -- without the 10 bucks a month surcharge. This way everyone that claims they wont be using more bandwidth with this phone can use that model instead, and be right.

Maybe I need to quote this... doesn't seem as though anyone read this.

The iPhone doesn't necessarily use more data, but people use it a lot more which in turns uses more bandwidth.

People don't seem to get that this price is very reasonable and still less than even T-mobile that used to be the cheapest for a while.

Hey guys I sent an email to Dan Hasse yesterday regarding dumping sprint due to the $10 fee and someone from his office they claim anyway just called me back regarding my email. It was a funny discussion where the rep knew all the info about the fee but after I started asking her questions like why am I not being charged that $10 fee on my HTC Hero that is almost an identical phone just less powerfull she said well you can watch movies on the evo, it was just funny when I told her ok I can do that on my phone and my last 5 phones I've owned through sprint but anyway, its a loose loose situation. They are not going to do anything about it and thats it eventhough at the end she didn't know hereself why they are charging the $10 fee after all my questions. It was just kind of funny.

Oooh she also said Dan Hasse like to compare the Evo to a high definition tv.
I told yes I own a high definition tv but I have a choice through my satelite company to buy high definition service, but with sprint I have no choice. She was pretty stumped. LOL

I also got an email for a female rep. Can you pm me her name. If it is the same, im not gonna bother calling.

Why I believe Sprint has to charge extra for the EVO

I thought I would share my thoughts on why I believe that Sprint has to charge something for the new phone/services it is rolling out.

I believe that Sprint is reacting to the market realities that they face which will ultimately determine if they succeed or fail.

In terms of the telecom market, Sprint (12%) is a distant 3rd behind Verizon (31%) and AT&T (25%). For reference, T-Mobile (12%) is also a distant third.

The market is also getting saturated in terms of available new customers.

From Sprint: The Fastest Phone On Earth ? 24/7 Wall St.

Sprint has invested a significant amount of its resources in this Wimax 4G strategy.
At best, they have from 6 - 9 months advantage in terms of 4G rollout, to at least start to close the gap before Verizon gets their 4G offering in gear. And with their resources, Verizon can make a major splash when they do. Not even mentioning AT&Ts pending rollout of the new iphone which will present another hurdle for Sprint. It appears that Verizon is taking a slower approach to rolling out 4G as part of their wait and see strategy to see how this saturated market reacts to paying more for faster service. Given Sprint?s position in the market, I don?t think they can afford to do this. They have to take some risk.

Sprint: Who Wants 4G? ? 24/7 Wall St.

I believe that Sprint has to charge some amount of money for the new services/features that they are providing because after all, Sprint has been bleeding money for a while now and has to have a plan that indicates profitability at some point in the not to distant future. While this 10.00 fee will not do it alone it could help.

Sprint is risking a lot with their current strategy and it has to pay off for them or they will become a minor player in the future telecom market. I believe that the 10.00 fee is just part of their risk management strategy.

As a long time Sprint customer, whose contract expires next month, I am trying to decide if I will stay with Sprint and get the EVO, or bolt to Verizon and get the incredible. Cost wise, with my employers discount with Verizon, they will be pretty close in price. Where I live I don?t have 4G and the place where I travel at lot (Pittsburgh, PA) does not have 4G either.

At this point I am not sure which direction I will go in, but the 10.00 will have not affect on the decision.

Yeh, but when you are in a state without any 4G at all and not even on the list for the future, you shouldn't be charged for 4G. I'm in Connecticut and we are not on any list.

But what if you leave that state and go to a 4G state for a month or so???

Sprint can't keep track of where you go with your phone, so there answer to that is charge everyone then they don't have to worry if you go into a 4g market sucking up bandwidth.

Heck some people may go as far to change there home address in Sprint's system to a NON 4g area just to get out of the $10 a month.

I understand Sprint's thinking with this but in the BIG picture it's a terrible decision.

I'm not to worried about the $10 a month charge. Its still a huge savings over other carriers.

My Hero tells me the town I'm in based on the tower its using. My phone can tell me when I';m roaming and back when there were roaming charges Sprint made sure I got hit with them. The nature of cell phones is that they CAN let you know where you are.

The excuse that Sprint can't tell if you're going to be using 4G or not is laughable.

Definitely disappointed with it, but you can see their overall strategy with it. They can use the excuse of a "premium charge" now and as 4g rolls out everywhere (and devices become common) then your normal dataplan is basically going to be $10 more for all phones. Nice way of raising rates without giving a big shock to people all at once.

I just wish they would admit it is a 4g charge and not charge those of us who have to drive for hours to access a 4g network.

$10/month per Evo?

So my dad and I both have the Pre, and my sister has a blackberry.

We were all interested in the Evo... But they don't know it's $10 a month. I thought it would be fine if we all upgrade to an Evo and get that cost. However, if we do all get the Evo would it not be an additional $30 a month because of all 3 Evos?

That's a little insane. I'd rather wait for the next WebOS phone... which is going to be god knows when seeing as HP seems to be solely interested in the tablet market.

$10 per EVO. And the next WebOS device on Sprint will more than likely be a 4G device that will also cost you $10 extra per device.

Sprint's a little crazy. I don't understand how they can just make it $10/device.

If the next WebOS device is 4G, and costs an additional $10, then something's wrong.

Because if the $10 is for the 4G, then it should be a flat rate, not dependent on the amount of 4G devices. Wow what a turnoff... And a general excuse, I don't even have 4G signal where I live. I doubt it's coming for a while.

$10 per line with a 4G device is a flat rate.

And you don't think other carriers are not going to charge a premium for 4g devices when they finally get them on their network? Look at Verizons plans and the way everything is an add-on. Oh and the $10 is a flat-rate.

Also, at one point, Sprint used to charge $15-$20 for data per line with their Vision service. Since they came up with the Everything plans it has been all-inclusive. It is a bit disappointing that they are going this route, but they could have just chosen to raise the rates on all plans across the board.
