Poor wifi & 3g performance - change config

I am assuming that certain config files are changed in order to get better battery life from these other ROMs. I installed Quattrimus ICS and really liked it, but wifi and 3g signal was less than half of the original factor ROM. Does anyone know how to modify the iwconfig ( I think that is what it is ) to increase the power to the radio part of the phone?? Is there a patch anywhere?? I know the power is lower because I flashed the factory ROM and I had great signal. I'd rather have the range then the battery performance. Thanks.
