Possible iPhone convert

Is this preorder deal likely the best it will have, or is there a chance they will drop the price or give a gear with it around the holidays? I'm used to no price drops at all and now I don't know when the best time to buy is. Haha. I am in no hurry though.

I switched from an iPhone 6s plus yesterday (Sept 15th) to my Verizon Note 8. So far, I have mixed feelings.

I really, really love the screen and its a *huge* improvement over my iPhone hands down. It's big, very bright and beautiful and watching videos and browsing is a joy. I also like the fact that Samsung chose to not create a notch on the screen like the iPhone X will have. I don't like the idea of watching a video on the iPhone X with the notch portion and cropping the video to exclude it out sounds like it could messy too and reduce the viewable area.

It has a home button and fingerprint reader. I read a lot about how difficult the fingerprint reader is to reach on the Note 8 next to the camera lenses but I guess my fingers are the perfect length as I find the positioning very convenient and easy. FaceID on the new iPhone looks like it might work very well, as long as an additional gesture isn't required to log in. I'm very concerned about the loss of the home button on the iPhone which is now gesture based--seems clunky but maybe it will be good.

I've replaced the default messaging app with the Google messages app to hopefully solve group text issues with iMessage users. If I can't reliably receive group and individual messages from iPhone users that will be a big problem.

All my contacts came over well with the smart sync, so that worked out well. I'm working on bringing over my music and I'm trying the Google music manager app. I'll see how that works out for me. Otherwise, I guess I'll try to mount the Note 8 as a hard drive and transfer the music that way. I really prefer Google solutions where they are available as I find carrier apps and manufacturer apps to be inferior. and sometimes costly.

So far, the biggest downgrade is how the device handles voicemail. There seems to be no Google option to replace exactly what I had on the iPhone which were visual voicemails with free voice-to-text that were stored on the device. I never had to delete them. I'm forced to use Verizon's version which limits my voicemail inbox (so I have to regularly delete) and voice-to-text costs an additional $2.99 per month. The personalized greeting I recorded sounds muffled and definitely a lesser quality experience for callers than what I had. If anyone has a better solution, please let me know.

At this point, I'm not sure. There is a lot that I like about this phone and hopefully I'll find solutions for some of the concerns I have and can live with those I can't. I have 13 days left so I'll have to make a decision soon. I really don't want to have to wake up at 3am EST to try and order an iPhone X and then wait 3 or 4 months.

I would say give the Note 8 a chance. It's hard when you change platforms, but you probably switched for a reason. Just be patient.

What are you upgrading from... do you have any other products with the same OS.. what will you be using it for.. etc etc etc...

I've been with apple since iPhone 4. Before that was blackberry.
I had a note 7 (2 times) then after 2nd recall went back to iPhone.

My "ecosystem" is coming apart at the seams.

iPhone 7- waiting for my Note 8 to replace it.
iPad Air 2- will keep till it dies then buy newest version
Mac book pro (2013) just upgraded to a windows pc
And got rid of Mac book.
Apple Watch series 1- I will be upgrading to gear s3
Apple TV 3rd gen- keeping this
Apple TV 4th gen.-keeping this

I couldn't be more excited to be getting the note 8. And honestly the only thing I don't like is that when I get messages/texts I can't use my iPad to respond to them. This is one of the things I didn't like when I had the N7 but I'll get used to it.

You'll be able to use your PC to respond to text messages if you have Cortana. This is one of the things I've loved since switching from my iPhone.

Good to know. But I normally never even use my laptop. In fact I keep it powered off most of the time. I tend to use it maybe once a month or even less. I never put down my iPad. It's practically glued to my hands.

There are free options out there for visual voicemail that offer voice to text, but how reliable they are is a grey area. Even the iOS voicemail to text isn't 100% accurate, and ATT always limited the amount of messages I could keep in my inbox on my iPhone 7+, so I just delete regularly anyway.

I wasn't forced into iOS after returning my Note 7 but it's what I chose to go with (along with a V20, but I damaged it and just stuck with the iPhone mostly) so I couldn't wait to get back to Android personally. Much more to offer for me personally.

As far as group messaging goes, are you having any issues so far? I can't speak for dedicated group iMessaging but I do have a few ongoing group messages and I know two of my friends have different generations of iPhone and one has an Android device and none of us have had any issues with group MMS. The only downside is the drop in picture/video quality from iMessage but there's workarounds for that through other apps. iMessage while convenient and good, definitely isn't enough to keep me on that side of the world :)

Give it a chance! I felt the same way when I switched. Figured I had 14 days to decide and within the first 5 days I was very happy to have switched. Been a great 3+ years for me

Any iPhone converts here? I considered the Note last year but delayed long enough for the issues to happen. Seems like the Note has a lot more features than the iPhone and the next gen isn't going to change that especially if they remove touchid. But they both cost the same. 2 things have kept me on iPhone. iMessage since my wife also has an iPhone. And my Apple Watch, which I have come to love.

I know I can use link sharing to send photos and videos to my wife in full quality but would there be any way for her to send them to me? Just email?

Any of you that have made the switch regret it?

Thanks for any thoughts or comments!

Came over from an iphone 7 plus after using an iphone for 10yrs. Love my Note 8. No regrets. IMHO, Apple is heading down some weird path for the iphone.

And you can do so much more with this phone over any iPhone ever released. Also, you are not told what you can and can not have running on your phone and what you can disable. Enjoy your Note 8, I am loving mine!

Having been a convert for almost 2 weeks now... while you can control what you have/have not running, with that come consequences and conflicts because the OS no longer dictates control over core functions. There will be conflicts and the more apps you have installed, the more difficult it is to troubleshoot which app or apps are causing the problem.

Android is like being a constant beta tester... cutting edge features that give you control over core functions without giving you all the information on how that tweak or app will impact other apps attempting control at any given moment.

iOS has all core functions locked down, so no app can possible cause instability or crashes, or jeopardize security. Every app is on the same playing field, making it more viable/attractive for programmers to go to iOS first.

Had every iPhone up to the 7plus and that was enough. I have the complete apple eco system which I love except for my phone.

I haven't felt this way about Android in a very long time. I have loved all of my Note phones and Nexus/Pixel phones. They have been great devices. The only Android smartphones I have had issues with have been budget smartphones and that's because they were underpowered.
