HTC Eris; Android 2.x?

I got confirmation from a Verizon Engineer that the HTC Eris Droid will NOT be getting the android update to 2.0. Reason being is the processor for the HTC Eris Droid is not fast enough to handle. Has anyone heard anything similar?

See, I've heard from an IT programmer at VZW that the Eris can indeed handle 2.0 and above. We'll know when we know..

That engineer was either making a bad joke or is reallllly stupid. There is a 32mhz difference between the Eris and Droid clock the only reason the Eris couldn't preform as well as the Droid would be ram.

This was there first post, I think its just a troll fanboy post or something.

Nexus One is sooo over hyped, social networking is important to me and the Eris has the best soft keyboard out of the 3(Moto and N1). I wanna see the new HTC Android phones, but rumor has it that Tmo is getting a lot of them...ugh.

Slightly (and I mean slightly) different processors. The model number on the Qualcomm processor on the Eris is higher, suggesting newer. The speed and ram and rom and all the other important factors, are indeed equal to the Hero. It seems, as of right now, that we at Sprint will get the 2.1 update

I have a good friend who works for a verizon store here in allen park and he states in the first quarter that htc has confirmed the android 2.1 for the eris not 2.0 that was originally promised during the first quarter.

I was told the same thing at my local VZ store when I ask the store manager there...He also said that it would be out in about 2 week. Here again this is just what I was told when I asked...seemed very sure and knowledgeable about it, but don't they all.....
