Post Pixel 6/6 Pro Reviews thread

I see what people are saying about the screen brightness being too dim. I didn't notice last night as it was dark as I was setting up my phone but today sitting in the kitchen and bright sunshine streaming into the room I find I have to up the brightness slider on the phone quite a lot, probably 70% to get a decent screen to look at (of course I have old eyes)

It's been like this for a while now. Google purposely makes dim screens. I forget the official reason. Normally one has to put a Pixel at almost full brightness to equal a Samsung or oneplus device at half brightness. So it is what it is.

My screen seems plenty bright enough for me, but I haven't had it outside yet. I don't get too upset if I can't see my phone's screen in bright sunlight, I just figure that's the nature of the beast. I can't imagine how bright a screen would have to be to have zero issues in bright sunlight...

I like to watch reviews but I have learned to take with a grain of salt. Some reviewers have a hidden agenda and it might not be obvious what their bias is. Some are just glorified salesmen.
Some don't take the time to use the device long enough to fully give a review. They all want your eyeballs for engagement. Nothing wrong with that. I like to watch a bunch of them and if there are no obvious flaws that are deal breakers across all of them then I might try it myself.

I personally watch non-youtuber reviews or reviews from real users not getting paid to review. So yeah which is either myself first hand or some random dude or gal on youtube sharing a video :)

After watching many reviews I get the overall impression there was so much hype given to the phone and in the end it wasn't something that could be classified as WOW but merely an improvement over the previous Pixel models. This may be the fault of tech reviewers and websites speculating the 6 series to be Google's actual competition to the quality of Samsung and Apple devices.

Still, I think Google is headed in the right direction!

I think the Pixel is kind of the same as what folks say about iPhone, it just does what it should, with the plus that Android allows for customization. Flossy's review was really positive. His negatives were really subjective, but in the end the review is subjective opinion aside from what is in black and white, such as specs. On my audiophile site, I always state that.

I do think that the fingerprint reader will be improved, although I have no issues. I also feel with confidence they will upgrade the camera software to catch up to the new hardware. Functionally, wishes aside, such as 1 TB storage etc. I think this is a solid phone. It has less of a kitchen sink approach like Samsung, meaning throw a tons of features on(include everything and the kitchen sink).

I generally upgrade two or three times a year. I still have my S21 Ultra and exchanged the Note 20 for it. The last Pixel I owned was the Pixel 4. I am liking the experience again. May put the S21 Ultra on Swappa or hold it for future trade-in, undecided. I will see how Google upgrades this phone.

I do think the hype is deserved and I think it steps up to the hype.

I'm going to make this short and not so sweet. I even posted this on Twitter:
"I have had very frustrating nonresponsive screen issues with my P6PRO. It won't register swipes, letters on keyboard near the curve won't respond. I will be calling tech support but right now I'm sorry I bought this."
I have messed with all sensitivity settings, even the screen speed setting. In addition many times the screen totally locks up and no amount of tapping on the app icons will open the app. If tech support can't help I will be doing a factory reset, and if that doesn't work resort to the protection plan I bought with the phone. While typing this even the keyboard would freeze.
Interestingly the fingerprint sensor has been flawless. Go figure.

I'm sorry to see that you're having issues. I would definitely do that reset factory and not install any apps just to see if the phone behaves the same way before you continue..

Thanks for the advice. Actually I ended up doing two factory resets yesterday.
It does seem to have helped but still not quite as good as my Pixel 4a. I think one cause is the variable screen cycles. It seems to be slow in kicking in. It would be nice if locking onto one speed would be offered. Maybe in Developer Mode would be a good place to put it.
Tapatalk acts a bit weird at times. When I'm scrolling through posts the screen will just take off and speed through 5 or 6 posts in microseconds.
I'll give the phone a week of normal use and see how it goes.

So, I've been watching the Flossy Carter review now for 2 days.....

LOL, just kidding. Dang he does have a lot of comparisons. Good stuff and I'm glad he gets the bad done before the good. Hopefully Google listens to the little gripes he has. I know I'll enjoy the phone more after going through the whole review. I do wish that he corrected the "no macro" in the beginning part. Is it so weird to do macro with telephoto instead of wide angle?

Has anyone used both and can you tell the difference in performance? I cant' decide if I want the Pro or not b/c the curved screen might annoy me and obviously compromises the durability of the screen. I want the upgraded specs and extra camera lens though.....

I have the Pro and I don't see any advantage over straight edges screens. It's a bit annoying when the edge of a photo curves down or when text is at the very edge and does the same. It is what it is. The rest of the phone is great and I wouldn't give it up because of the screen curve.
