Doesn't gmail allow you to import a.vcf directly?
That could've saved you a bunch of time if so.
yea i never rooted my pre. guess i will have to root it
my friend want to sync his palm to his new HTC with Android too but doesn't know how to. That companionlink software; do you have to install it on your computer or on the HTC or Palm?If you want to avoid putting all your data on Google, you can use CompanionLink USB to pull the contacts and calendar off your Palm Pre and sync it to Outlook using the USB cable. Then, you can sync contacts and calendar back over the the EVO 4G. This also works if you're migrating to the EVO 4G from another phone, such as a BlackBerry or an iPhone.
The Android USB sync works with an app called DejaOffice. DejaOffice has its own super-charged contacts, calendar, tasks and notes apps for Android. You can use DejaOffice to sync the contacts in from the PC, and transfer them over to the native Android address book if you like.
If you just need to do a one-time migration of your contacts, you can use the free 14-day trial of CompanionLink USB.
There is a patch in Preware that will make all of your contact into a vcf file. After that you just need to sign into a gmail account and upload the vcf file. When you sign into your Android phone for the first time, use that gmail account that you uploaded the vcf file to as your default gmail. That's it. Super easy. If you need any help with it at all contact me and I will help you. I did all this when I changed over in less 5 minutes.I had such a hard time with that. My contacts were transferred by the sprint store but when I got home I rooted and wiped them all..
I had to download the patch called send contacts via email (if pre is rooted and preware installed) then I sent myself the email with the contacts in .vcf format, which I downloaded. I don't personally use Outlook but I had to import the contacts into Outlook.. Then I installed HTC sync from the inside the Evo and connected to pc. From there I clicked on Sync which guides you through the process and I selected sync with outlook contacts and viola. It only took me about 3 hours cuz like a dodo I imported .vcf files to windows contact and couldn't find it in Win 7... Anyway let me know how you make out with that because I didn't have any luck with xfer from gmail, since that's not my default email...

Do you need to have Pimlical to use Companion Link USB for Android. I only have Palm Desktop. Do the contacts in DejaOffice have to be linked with the phone's contacts or can they be kept separate. I do not want my info in DejaOffice to go into the cloud and Google's servers. If you want to avoid putting all your data on Google, you can use CompanionLink USB to pull the contacts and calendar off your Palm Pre and sync it to Outlook using the USB cable.
