This not iPhone android phones can b announced in Feb but not released till when ever. Case in point thunderbolt in Jan and multiple delays finnaly realesed in may bionic didn't make it till Oct galaxy tablet went through a whole redo before released. Just because they anouced it doesn't mean a release. How many cities have 4g? Nirvana whole lot.
well they announced it which means they are launching it. soon. otherwise - why announce it? to sit on it for 6 months? i think not.

and again - we have no idea exactly how much of their LTE infrastructure is already ready. i think you'll be surprised at launch.

There are also plenty of examples of them announcing a phone and releasing it without sitting on it (Gekko has posted the list for Sprint several times all over the place).

Why does that matter? The Nexus Galaxy doesn't run solely on 4G, it also has 3G for the data and 2G for voice. If it was a crap phone and the only selling point it had was 4G I could see why it matters, but it is a good phone. I (and probably plenty of other people) want it because it has ICS, or a large HD screen, it is/will be one of the only two phones from Sprint with NFC, it is the newest Nexus phone or any other selling point it has that is not 4G.

historically - most Android phones are released approximately 2 months after announcement by the carrier. of course there have been exceptions when things have gone wrong.

I'm hoping for a release this month since my contract with Verizon ends in a couple weeks :)

However, hoping won't change the probability that it won't launch for a couple months. :(

why not just buy the Verizon G-Nex? why do you want to leave Verizon and go to Sprint?

1-9-12 Sprint G-Nex announced
2-24-12 Sprint G-Nex available "for sale" date announced?
3-9-12 Sprint G-Nex available for sale?

I will be getting a new contract with Sprint this weekend. If the Galaxy Nexus is not available, I will have to get the iPhone.

April 1 2012

This year, April 1st is a Sunday and it is also April Fool's Day so that may not bode well for a release.

Let's say April 2nd, just to be safe. ;)

Random subject change:

Has anybody had any experience on talking Sprint into moving up your renewal date if a change of vendors is mentioned?
My upgrade is not until 09/01/12 and once the Nexus is out, I was thinking of giving corporate a call to threaten to jump ship to see if they will push up my upgrade date.
Thoughts? Thanks.

Sunday's are iconic for Sprint phone releases.

And good luck talking them into an early upgrade. There famous line now is "moving in line with the competition". So really ask yourself this before you ask them, "would the competition do it?"

I'd say you have a 95% failure rate, and that's being conservative.

Because it will have the best resale value when the Galaxy Nexus finally gets released.

Why not just wait? I've got my phone upgrade in March, so I'm hoping that at the very least they announce a release date by then, but I'm probably going to wait at least a week or two after Sprint releases it so that I can let other people find the bugs in it and decide if I still want to get it.

Waiting is not an option. My account is being closed.

i'd look at buying a cheap used Nexus S on craigslist or ebay as a temporary solution and save the new phone price for the G-Nex. then keep the old phone as a backup. i'm assuming Sprint would allow this.

good luck.

I don't think so. I will be opening a new account this weekend, I assume sprint would required me to use my new phone discount at that time.

You will retain the $150 credit towards a new phone when you choose to buy it, but you won't be able to take advantage any special price break for signing up for a new contract.

ok then i guess if you have no other choice your iPhone 4S strategy makes sense.
