Preorders starting tomorrow? (Nov 29th)

If this is true and Dec. 8th is the release date, it sucks for me since I'll be in the UK for work as of Monday. :( If I pre order, do I have a certain amount of days I need to activate it by? I don't return to the US till the 14th of December?

You do not have to activate it in any amount of time, you can wait as long as you want to activate it.

I'd love for that to be true, but that would mean Verizon would be passing up on an opportunity to bend us over again. If history has shown us anything, it's that Verizon Wireless never passes up an opportunity to do that.

Patiently awaiting release:

Wifes upgrade = check
Wifes new every 2 $50 credit = check
$25 living social $50 credit = check

Hoping for a $199 price, either way, I am there at open on 12/8 :D

Interesting. I've been debating whether getting the Nexus day one at a corporate store, or waiting till Costco brings it up with accessories. In the past, Costco is usually a bit slower in getting phones, but if they sell it fairly soon after the official release, I can wait a bit longer to score all those goodies. I can only hope!

When i got my Bionic they had the phone at 11:00AM the same day as Verizon released it for less than big red and had the bundle pack. They also took it back 14 days later without a restock fee. They also put me on "the list" so I could get one of the six they got in.

This article looks like link bait. They were desperate to get some traffic and what better way than with some BS source. Confirmed? That's a dead giveaway they're looking for traffic.

This was the first time I ever went to a site on my phone and could not back out of it. It kept restarting and I was thinking link bait too.

I hate to ask such a DUMB question so late in the game in this thread... but can someone educate me on how "Pre-orders" work...? ... or point me to a link..?

When I got my DroidX on opening day... I was one of the boneheads that got up early and waited in the parking lot...then had the Verizon people configure and set it up for me..

Here's the other kicker... I'm an IT for 22 years (Servers/Engineering) and for the life of me I would have no idea what to do to begin to setup a new phone...xfer'ing the account over...and do what needs to be done as far as updates....and getting the phone "performance tuned"...

Is it as simple as... Pre-ordering online from Verizon...and making the necessary changes on the site..? any help or guidenace would be great... otherwise I'll be in the parking lot AGAIN with coffee and donuts....

I've pre-ordered the BB Storm and this is how I assume it'll go with a new Android phone

1) Pre-order on their website

2) Phone arrives are your house on the release date (usually)

3) Activate your phone using instructions that came with the 4G SIM.

4) Log-in to your GMail account

5) Surprise, everything is on your GMail account. Your paid apps, contacts, calendar, and any other goodies you have. I'm not sure if free apps are saved on there. I ROM'd my OG Droid over to GPA 19 again yesterday and surprisingly I had the same wallpaper before the reset and the same free apps AND it had remembered my wi-fi password. Different people say different things. I deleted all content off of my phone so that must mean GMail backed everything up. Of course that means contents on the SD Card will probably not be able to get transferred via GMail. sad face.

TL;DR GMail saves everything and transfers your contacts, calendar, paid applications, and in some cases you get extras like your wi-fi password and old wallpaper. It's as simple as that!

edit: Thanks Benny879 and Premium1 for correcting me on #3. I didn't know the activation was different for 4G phones.

Actually since this is a 4G phone the *228 method will not work and actually could damage the SIM card if tried. The phone will come with a 4G SIM which can be activated over a phone call. You'll get an activation guide with the card. It's a very simple process. If you contacts are synced to your gmail then they will auto load once you sign into Google services.

Yeah, Costco is pretty great. But I really want to pre-order this sucker. If I KNEW Costco would be releasing this device the same day, I would get it from there but we don't know if this is the case. The Droid 3 took almost a month to come to Costco. I'm just gonna suck it up and pre-order with Verizon.

with 4g phones you do not do the *228, in the box it will come with a slip that tells you what to do you either dial a number or go on a website and accept the terms and then it is activated right then.

Okay... I was not aware of that...

So that's all that needs to be done is follow the activation card... sounds Waaaaay tooo simple if you ask me... All of the account information is updated....switched over, etc...? All the apps...settings...and the old phone will be disabled...?

Ahh, good to hear. I can wait a bit longer after Verizon's official release to see if Costco gets it. I'm going to be out that whole week anyway snowboarding at Mammoth [prays for good snow], so I won't be thinking about the phone during that time, hehe. :D

Yes old phone will be deactivated. To get your apps all you will have to do is sign into your google account and go into the market and they should be there. If not just go redownload them, but the paid apps will be there for sure. Contacts will also transfer if you have them saved to your gmail.

I'm curious how the SIM card works if you buy the phone off contract. Does it still come with one? I have a Thunderbolt, and I was hoping to just be able to pop in my current SIM card, but with the Nexus using a micro SIM, that's not possible.

I've heard Verizon will send you new SIM cards for free (or at least, for only a small amount of money?), but that'd kinda suck to get the Nexus, but then not be able to use it for a few days until I get my new SIM card. :/

Well at my store. Accessories has started to arrived and I'm on their call list. Unless that guy was bsing me about the call list but accessories are in and I know they were out a few weeks back on rare stores but in a small town and us getting accessories tells alot.
Were getting closer.
