I have to correct Port # - COM5. I get "Connected to COM5 Successfully" in CDMA Workshop. However, when I click READ to get the phone info I get "Failed.. Phone does not answer". Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Read the instructions. This is supposed to happen. Mine did the same thing, but I just continued to the next step and it finished with no problems. I have been running on the hybrid prl for two days now with better signal and faster speeds.

It didn't do anything for me...

Before I uploaded the hybrid PRL I did some extensive speed testing during various times of the day and also kept track of the towers my phone connects to with the OpenSignal app. My phone constantly changes between 4 towers that are less than a mile from me, and they all have the same crappy signal strength that keeps fluctuating. This is probably due to reflections of the signal and multipath propagation.

I then changed to the hybrid PRL and found that nothing changed. Same constant switching between towers (probably to triangulate its position) and the 3G data speeds were the same (DL between 0-300kbps).

Since it didn't make any difference I changed back to the original PRL last night. Same speeds and same tower switching. When I checked the speed again this morning I get speeds of around 700kbps down. Twice as good as usual.

Now if I would have switched to the hybrid PRL last night I can see one might attribute the speed increase to the new PRL. What really is going on is that propagation is enhanced. (Happens every moning for VHF, UHF and SHF signal; propagation enhancement drops of when the sun heats up the atmosphere. This can happen in the evening too when the atmostphere cools down or when a cold front moves in.) So I'm wondering if folks really are experiencing differences due to propagation changes or for some other reason, rather than the PRL change. Just because you see an improvement after you changed the PRL doesn't mean it is because of that PRL change. That's the common thereafter-therefore fallacy.

No one on here checks which towers their phone actually connects to. Isn't that the whole point of changing the PRL? Without checking which towers your phone is using before and after the PRL change, you cannot possibly say if changing the PRL has any effect.

So my question is, has anyone else actually checked if their phone is connecting to different towers so that you can positively say that changing the PRL helped? I really would like to see some actual data, which is easy to come by with the free app I mentioned earlier.

Another thing that could be causing speed increase is the forecast for the day. Cloudy over cast says have always been notorious for enhancing "skip" in hte two way radio bands. Basically creating a ceiling and forcing the radio signal to stick around longer.

Dunno if this would after the frequencies used for mobile devices, but my days as a "skip talker" on the cb always seemed to reach farther in the winter months and on cloudy cool days.

Easy way to test this is switch back and forth a few times between stock and the new PRL over a short period of time, testing after each switch..... Not it!

I figured out the problem. While working with the HTC EVO I must have trashed some of the LG drivers. After reinstalling them I was able to access the phone in both QPST and CDMA Workshop.

Thanks,
Joshua

PRL hack results

Tested the hack PRLs w/ Speedtest. Here are links to my results...finding CDMA workshop was a pain and my AV telling me it's a virus was a pain, but the walk through is really good.

Testing: Turned off wifi, left phone connected to computer w/ full battery. Placed in same place on desktop, and after setting down left it for ~15 seconds before starting test.

Phone: Optimus V w/ Aospcmod 2.3.3
Kernel: 2.6.32.33 Mod version OV-20110427
CPU setting: On-demand; Min: 245; Max: 748

Initial Test:

Spring only:

Hybrid:

Conclusion: The hybrid is about 33% faster...not sure if it's because I had more towers to choose from or if it's more streamlined and better suited to how I tested.

My first post, hope it's helpful.

Not to rain on your parade, but they just posted an updated Sprint PRL on XDA. Good work on the testing though.

That depends upon your area. Best bet is to test each one for a day or two, then stick with the one that works best for you.

I didn't notice any difference from stock VM PRL to the Hybrid PRL in my area, and I've been on the Hybrid one for several weeks now.

I used the hybrid PRL and at full bars I can download at twice the speed. at one or two bars the download speed is the same as that with the stock VM PRL. I did noticed that the 3G issue continues with the hybrid PRL too, I had to go into airplane mode for the 3G to come back.

Just flashed the new 01115 PRL and still only 0-2 bars at home. I'll see how it is over the next few weeks.

Anyone have an up to date list of Sprint towers for a given city? All I could find was an outdated map on cellreception.com.
