What's the easiest method for changing it? Also, post some disadvantages, and advantages. Lastly, can I always go back?

1: the "easy way" is doing it the right way ( posted on this forum )

2: Yes you can go back. You can always 'back-up' the original PRL.

The advantages to me is having a slightly better 3G signal. I live far from a city, but when i commute over there my signal is over all better.

Disadvantage for me would be... that I now get to use the browser more, there for the battery is drained quicker lol

Good post, but can you share some links plz? I seen about 4 different methods already. I tried one, but stuff were missing.

[HOWTO] Change PRL on Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V (5/06/2011) - xda-developers

anything that i can guide you on let me know . its pretty straight forward. Just follow the steps one by one.

Theres a step on getting your MSL code, and two ways on getting that code. one of those ways was using the virgin mobile website and the other one was using a program.. ( i think its called qpst or something like that ) itll tell you on the post... anyway the website thing seems easier but it didnt work for me no matter what i would do .. so just try the sure way and use the program.

BTW if youre using a gingerbread rom then your phone needs to be on the recovery menu ... thats just the way it is.

Im thinking about doing this, and im on theIHO backside GB rom, what part exactly do you need to be in the recovery menu? throughout the whole of it or? also the website thing didint work for me so im going to have to use the program

It has something to do with drivers, and mounting I believe.

i figured out the the whole process needs to be done from the recovery menu or else the programs cant communicate correctly with the phone

hi, first time poster here, been lurking and learning for a little while.

I had a question that I hope somebody can answer before I try loading a new PRL. When I go to the Settings > About Phone > Status on my phone the listed PRL shows its version 61007. I am confused as to how this is possible as the current one (as far as I can tell) is 60683.

I have yet to change my PRL but was able to get the MSL code by using CDMA workshop.

Can anybody advise about this before I try loading 60683?

Thank you

Oh alright. I figured they went in order and the default one would have just been a few hundred down the list or whichever one was current when ever the phone was manufactured.

Thanks for that heads up.

Just updated to 60683. So far the results have been mixed. I did a bunch of speed tests before and now after the switch. Some tests are significantly better and then others are about the same. I will wait and see what the longer term results are as I saw some other posts about it taking some time to fully see the advantage of switching.

Thanks to all the OP's who supplied the links and HOW-TO's

EDIT: Quick question. Is the MSL code linked with the phone or with my phone number / VM account number?

THe MSL is linked to the phone itself, not the phone number, i know this cause ive had about 3 different phones now on the same phone number.

I think the PRL number really only affects your coverage itself, not the speed at which your connection is. Ive had about the same mixed results as you, i think the speed tests arent very conclusive considering how the connection speed changes minute to minute, also the conditions involved are never really the same. It would be hard to do a completely controlled test of such.

Im on 60683 and my girlfriend is on the stock 61007 or whatever it is and we have very similar connection about everywhere we go.

I spent the weekend in central california and I was regularly getting 2 megabits per second over 3G everywhere I went.

battery life was improved dramatically on my own Triumph with a modded PRL, and a friends Optimus V with the stock PRL. both got great speeds and coverage.

went back down to LA, and missing the great 3G speeds up north.
