Problems after 2.2 update - post here.

Mac Mounting

On my Fascinate, I was told by Gnomad how to use terminal and make a script in order to mount my Fascinate to my Mac computer. That thread has been closed (???) so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. Since updating to Froyo the terminal method no longer works! I've heard of other users being able to connect without a problem after froyo. But I cannot get it to mount to my Mac either way! Any help would be very very much appreciated!

Anyone experiencing poor battery life? My "mobile data" is always on, didnt know if thats an issue or not, but overall since the upgrade my battery time has been decreased dramatically.
thoughts?

z28zr1 DONT give up on Froyo!! It is so worth it on the Fascinate! Flash is great! The phone seems to be fast on Froyo compared to Eclair!!
Hey...found the problem. There is a mobile Data button the 2.1 operating system did not have, up on the notification bar. If that is not turned on you will have no internet connection. I don't know why you would turn it off but now you can. The techs at VZW
didn't even mention to check that button. The phone is working great now!

I was getting this error,"The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." as well after installing froyo from the ota update. I ended up doing a master reset and it took care of the issue for me.

My battery life has been terrible since the update. Same settings as before, but maybe 8 hours of average use before battery goes "yellow". Update is nice but this is unacceptable.

+1 for poor battery life. Went to the gym and had a podcast on, when I looked at it after getting home, it was in the yellow. Normally it wouldn't even be at half yet.

I am having extremely good battery life personally. (I'm currently on stock ED01 updated via OTA.) There's a thread to help you try and sync your battery for better battery life, I'd give it a try and see if it helps. It worked great for me, my phone lasts over 24 hours with average use without going below 30% battery. Here's the thread: http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...8399-how-discussion-improve-battery-life.html

Edit: Don't worry about the terminal emulator part if you're not rooted (completely stock) Just do the charging part at the beginning. Charge to 100%, turn off let it charge to 100% while powered off, then turn back on and let it charge back to 100%. I recommend the part about draining your battery down to 2-4% after you have charged to 100% then recharging to 100% once more as this will sync your battery with your phone. Like I said it worked great for me and my battery life is amazing! Just be sure to read the information in the link to better understand the procedure.

Good luck!

As far as the poor battery life, make sure you have GPS and wifi turned off when you are not using them. They have been found to be complete battery hogs on Froyo.

Updated Thursday morning, all is working fine except the camera. Has anyone found a way to fix the camera without doing a factory reset???

battery life on froyo

I was having horrible battery life, even with wifi, gps, and bluetooth turned off. It was so bad that overnight it had a huge drain without being used. I read some old stuff that talked about thrashing between froyo and task managers so I delete the one I had. I wouldn't call it conclusive yet but I seem to be getting much better life.

I also had lookout installed but had never gotten around to setting that up and trying it. I deleted it earlier today but that didn't seem to make a difference although I didn't really give that much time. I therefore can't point the finger at this app.

I did notice that there were lots of things running and they kept getting restarted quickly after I would kill them. I would like to know how to stop some of this stuff from starting automatically. It doesn't seem like android gives you control over auto start apps. I suppose if I rooted......

The Android OS is designed to multi-task. It will shut down apps you don't need on it's own and will keep an app open and running in the background if another app you are using needs or will run more efficiently with that other app in the background. ATK's (Auto or Advanced Task Killers) work contrary to that natural functioning of Android by closing necessary apps and making Android work harder than necessary, thus working the battery harder. I forgot to mention ATK's when giving the advice to turn off GPS and wifi when not using them, because I've gotten used to giving advice to rooted users and almost all of us know not to use ATK's. VZW salespeople love to tell people to put ATK's on their phones, but this is only because they have shoot for brains. Anyone having horrible battery life on the official ED01 OTA, make sure to turn off GPS and wifi when not using them, and uninstall any ATK's.

I am certain that the task manager was extending my battery life on 2.1. I would certainly expect the task management to have been improved in 2.2 so I can understand the thrashing. I was seeing things running like skype. I don't use it and would like it to not be running. There were quite a few other things running that I don't use. I know if the API framework and the task management is strong enough then it doesn't matter if a process shows as "running". Being a Unix guy I tend to want to see more process information and have more control over them.

Updated Thursday morning, all is working fine except the camera. Has anyone found a way to fix the camera without doing a factory reset???

I did the update and everything worked fine except the camera, I did the factory reset and now I get "Warning Camera failed", so the (factory reset) didn't fix it. I would wait for someone to come up with a patch or something. good luck.

Greetings to all. New member here.

The main problem I'm having right now is with gallery, camera, and battery life. A word of advice. You can still delete pictures in gallery, but do it one at a time, in the picture itself. If you try and delete multiple pics, it isn't happening. Also, I've found that trying to delete a picture in the camera gallery itself(from the camera) is a no go. Locks solid and have to kill it in task manager.

Any ideas on how to deal with that problem? I'm not rooted. About as adventurous as I get is using LauncherPro.

I've read through the thread, hopefully I didn't miss the answer somewhere within. It's my first day with my first Android device so hopfully it isn't a dumb question. When I try to download Froyo, it goes on and on for a good while (10/15 minutes) before it says "download failure" and "network error" I was able to download Angry Birds Rio, though.

Am I missig something?

I fixed mine, try this if you have camera problems:

Its not terribly common, but there have been some cases where upon installing froyo and updating the camera, the firmware flash has messed up and broken the camera. Make no mistake, this is not a software issue. Its a camera firmware issue and the only way to fix it is to reflash the firmware.

Now, the camera software offers once. After that, if it fails, it isn't going to prompt again.

To get around this:

1. Download Launcher Pro from the market. Any cut and ADW will likely work too.
2. make a new shortcut, to an activity.
3. Scroll to Camera Firmware, and choose the second option (user)
4. Click ok. There is now a shortcut on your homescreen. Choose the third option, Phone to CAM FW Write. Put your phone down and do not touch it until it is done.
