Same here. Guy at Verizon store seemed pretty knowledgeable but couldn't run the update either. Said Verizon has removed the capability for them to flash the phones from their computers at the store. Only remedy he says is my new replacement phone which should arrive on 4/25. Major PITA.i got it downloaded but the update failed. I got some message about IP previous update failed. Where did it download it too so I can try and run it again without having to re-download it?
For those with camera issues, this is what I got from Verizon Tech. support.
Thank you for contacting our Verizon Wireless website. We apologize you are not able to use the camera on the Samsung Fascinate since installing a recent update. We are happy to assist you with troubleshooting the Samsung Fascinate.
Based on the information provided, the Samsung Fascinate has installed the Android Operating System (OS) 2.2 update and now the camera no longer works. The recent update included an update for the camera which will improve the functionality of the camera. We regret there is not a separate update available for the camera.
We suggest completing a soft reset by powering off/on the Samsung Fascinate to ensure the application is working properly. The behavior you have described may also be caused by software on the Samsung Fascinate becoming corrupt. In most cases software related issues can be resolved by performing a soft or if necessary, a hard reset. We have provided steps to hard reset the Samsung Fascinate due to the camera not working.
Soft reset:
Soft Reset - Samsung Fascinate SCH-I500
Test the Samsung Fascinate and if the issue still persists, follow the instructions below to perform a hard reset:
Please note the following:
- A hard reset will erase everything on the Samsung Fascinate, so don't perform a hard reset unless your data is backed up, or you are willing to lose all data
- Also, you may need to re-enter third-party software registration codes when you restore your data later, so keep these handy or request them from the third-party software vendor before proceeding
- Pictures and purchased applications are saved to the memory card and Contacts are typically saved to the Gmail server. Please login to http://www.gmail.com from a computer to ensure the Contacts and Calendar information are saved before resetting the device
Hard reset:
Hard Reset - Samsung Fascinate SCH-I500
Once the steps above have completed, the Samsung Fascinate will be able to use the camera feature.
Our records also indicate that you may benefit from a free update of your wireless phone?s roaming software. As Verizon Wireless continues to expand our network, it is important to update your software to receive optimal coverage when traveling. We recommend that you perform this update at least every 30 days or before leaving for a trip, as this will give you the ability to pick up newly acquired service areas while roaming. Hope this helps someone..![]()
When I purchased my Fascinate none of my computers (Win 7 or XP) would recognize my phone to allow me to mount the SD card and pull off pics, videos, or other files. I took my laptop and phone in to the Verizon store to show them it wouldn't work and the guy that sold us the phone called support on the phone and tracked down something on the internet that made it work for my laptop. After I got the update ( 2.2.1 ) a few days ago I am back to the computers not recognizing the phone. Hopefully someone has some information or I guess I will be going back to the store.![]()
I had such high hopes for this but unfortunately it didn't work for me.
Update: I had my phone connected to my win 7 laptop with the power off and when I turned the phone back on the laptop recognized the phone, downloaded the drivers, and I was able to mount the SD card to pull files off. Now I need to try it on my XP computers.
My only issues thus far have to do with the haptic feedback, and vibrations on text and email.
Before, I could get one solid vibration for text, and two solid ones for emails. But now, to get a noticeable vibration, I need to turn haptic up pretty high (i'm actually not certain it vibrates at all). But then all the feedback i want to have when touching say, android keyboard, are super strong, which I don't want. Also, my soft keys don't seem to want to change w/ the haptic feedback settings either.
Thoughts or suggestions? As I know others have voiced this issue.
Also, I haven't yet tested out my ringtone settings. I will report back later today.
OK, got the phone today and ran the update. Think I finally got My BackupPro to restore my apps but some of my paid apps don't seem to recognize their licenses. Phone is unuseable due to constant "com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." error. Now to research this one on the forums.Same here. Guy at Verizon store seemed pretty knowledgeable but couldn't run the update either. Said Verizon has removed the capability for them to flash the phones from their computers at the store. Updated to Froyo and now the Ford Sync Bluetooth phone system is no longer operating correctly for me. It takes the call off of bluetooth after about 20 seconds and goes back to the phone, despite saying it is still connected. I've had the car for 5 months and have never had a problem with the Fascinate syncing to the system. I've seen other posts about this with other devices going to Froyo, but is anyone here seeing this?
Pepperwheel, I'm having the same problems with my Ford Sync system. I'm glad to know that I'm not alone. My phone will sync sometime but most of the time it won't even though my phone says it is connected. I was also using the phone through the Ford Sync system and during the phone call it disconnected and went back through the phone. I was going to try to remove the phone from the Ford Sync system and reinstall it. I'll let you know what happens.
