[PSA][READ ME][FAQ] All about root, and the upcoming 2.3 gingerbread OTA update.

Is there ANYTHING different from stock in your /system partition other than it being rooted? Ie: did you delete/uninstall any bloat apps?

What error did it give?

I did not delete or uninstall any stock or bloat apps. Just froze them. I unfroze everything and it still did not work. I pretty much run it exactly as stock.

The error that I get is a red triangle with a red exclamation point inside it. I then pull the battery and restart the phone.

Ugh, was hoping it would give an error message.

Alright, still doing research, hope to have a guide soon.

Thanks for your help. I am trying one more thing. I had a non-stock app frozen so that might be the reason it failed. I uninstalled it and will see if it works.

Just give the devs time to work over the weekend to get rooted and out. There is no need to rush.

Didn't work. Even with stock recovery you cannot install the OTA update like you could last time. Oh well.

Have you flashed CWM, and then flashed the update from it? It will then REMOVE CWM and root, so then you push CWM back on, 2.6.0.1, and then push the su package on via the new CWM.

That should work. Will give it a go as soon as I get home for lunch.

@SmokeCrawler
Myself and a lot of others do not want to wipe our phones by installing a new rom. Sure you can back up everything, but if you can just flash the update and then flash a su package to re root it, why flash a whole new rom?

There are apps that will backup text and other info that you don't want to lose. Contacts are with google so that just leaves your home screen but honestly it shouldn't be that difficult to set it back up. Apps can be backed up with Titanium.

Not being a jerk or anything like that. Just trying to save some frustration. ;)

No frustration :) I do this for every OTA, sometimes before the other devs get a ROM out.

Non on your end but just reading how everyone needs it now is mind blowing.

Its like crack, they need it now. lol :D

Got the update to run on my rooted, custom recovery EVO. Rerooting now and after I verify everything works I will post a guide and put a link here.

This is a no-wipe upgrade. You upgrade just like you would if you were unrooted, lose your root (and custom recovery), flash new recovery, re-root.
