Lol I finally decide I'm ready to root and I read this thread. Oh well lol, in due time. The first rom I'm flashing is that Virus one with Sense 3.0.

Question, when you flash a new rom do you lose all your contacts?

backup your contacts with your gmail account so that way, when you restore your gmail account on the new ROM, your contacts will also be restored

Pretty sure it's a mixed bag. Some GB devices are being shipped with unlocked bootloaders, making it simple to root.

So it seems it is more complicated to root the 2.3.3 version and it may take some time to root (perhaps it will never to rooted)...meanwhile the buggy version must be used without recourse or options.

Is there a way to load an RUU even though bootloader is locked? (note: run via computer with phone off, not letting phone security interfere with process...)

I thought the backup to gmail was automatic, but exporting to the SD card would work too.

not that I know of. Every RUU I've tried to load gets an error with the boot loader. When I try to manually install (change the name to PC36IMG.zip) it tells me that my version is newer than what I'm trying to load and it doesn't work.

There is no way around this boot loader till it has been cracked. There is no flashing back anything as you can not put older on the phone.

all i want is to remove the bloat again. I was the lazy idiot who used Z4root, deleted the Nascar and other sprint crapola and found it wouldn't let me take the update. Factory reset while still on Froyo (figured just reload via Titanium backup and then take the OTA instead of flashing a custom ROM) to bring back the bloat and it still wouldn't take. tried to took it to sprint and have regretted it for the last few weeks waiting to get rid of the bloat (will take my time and use something like bloat freezer this time). Actually considered giving the Evo to the daughter and grabbing an Evo3D - but i'd rather hold out hope for the 4G+ since I think 3D is a joke on a phone.

i've had no problem loading an RUU on my phone. restores completely to stock. froyo

i just plug the phone into pc and execute the program.

Still no root process..... Super fail. Its getting hard to bare. I was sent a replacement evo and it came with new software also. Thought I may get lucky and get an oldie. Anyone wanna swap? Lol!

Same boat here.....Had this EVO on one of my lines......upgraded that line to the 3d and took the og EVO for myself.......took it in to swap out(big regret!) cause of dust under glass and got stuck with this POS.....considering putting up a trade offer on Craigslist for epic or nexus s.......or back to my Scott pilgramed optimus....

So someone's already managed to root the Evo 3D - isn't that likely to mean the same method will root the GB update for the Evo 4G?
