Question about renting. If G-Nex is web only, am I screwed?

Sounds like a scam. Or you are just trolling.

If you think i'm trolling ask a Verizon sales rep. It may be that mine was misinformed or lying, but I have no way of knowing for sure. Or you could just throw accusations around.

I think in the contract it says that you're only entitled to one replacement/restock. In order to return it again I think you'd have to cancel the contract completely, which might cost you your current phone number and a new activation fee. I could be wrong though.

You are allowed one exchange on the same transaction. If you returned the phone and then ate buying a new phone under a new transaction than you are still entitled to one exchange.

Relax. Breathe. Repeat.

I'm just saying if you were really told that, it's a scam.

guys the restocking fee is $35 for the rezound. This is from the Verizon store in baltimore. That is standard. If you decided NOT to return the Beats headphones then you can't return the phone because that comes in the packaging. Let's not continue this anymore.

It doesn't bother me. I ended up getting the Razr and I'll be exchanging it for the Nexus when it arrives. I'm just reporting my experience for the benefit of others. If you have some information to reinforce your claims I think everyone would appreciate to hear it.

I hope you're right. I would just check and make sure before you purchase the Rezound. There may be other stores trying to do what mine did.

I got the Rezound last week. I asked about the return policy and they told me Jan. 9th, for $35.

To get back to the O.P.'s question, I'd like an answer myself. What happens if I have a Rezound and they release the Nexus web-only?

They will not take your preorder unless your rental is returned in-store or mailed back to Verizon and have paid the restocking fee.

Thanks.

So if they, just for example, released it online-only tomorrow morning, could I go to a verizon store, return my rezound, and go home and order the Nexus? Or is it going to take days to process. Cuz that would suck!

Actually, (not trying to sound confrontational) they can do whatever they want. They do not have to print it on the receipt. They do not have to inform you about it. As long as the information is available somewhere in writing, they are good to go. Nobody is going to hire a lawyer and attempt to sue over a hundred bucks. So without court intervention, they are allowed to screw you any way they want to. They can even deny the return or refuse to allow you to even enter the store.

Always remember things like this when trying to "play the system" in a retail store. Many store managers make a point to track people they think are doing this. And often times, they will deny the return.

I work in retail management, and I know damn well what companies can and cannot do. No retail manager anywhere on the face of this earth will attempt to 'do whatever they want' if it isn't in writing plain as day for the customer to see. Unless they make it clear that such a fee will be charged at the time of purchase, they are not legally able to charge me that fee. If the item meets the qualifications for return, and is within the return period, the company is obligated to take it back unless they can prove excessive returns, or abuse of the system. (I work with the company that does this for most every retailer out there, and they can tell) Absent that proof, those companies do not want to risk a complaint to the Attorney General's Office or a state's consumer bureau.

I'm not so sure. It's entirely possible. It was not a corporate Verizon store but it was a Verizon branded store. My sales rep was the manager of the store and explained to me that they can't use headphones once they've been purchased. He further stated that he received an email from Verizon corporate that the restocking fee was to be $135, specifically because of the included earbuds.

Lesson of the day: Don't listen to idiots that work in a non-corporate store, and don't shop at that store to begin with.

He fed you a line, probably because the RAZR has a higher SPIFF than the Rezound, and you fell for it. No such policy exists.

I think that in law, whatever's written in the contract trumps anything stated.

THAT SAID, I completely agree with your sentiment; I highly doubt VZW would make such a big policy change without telling people.

Little known fact: The sales receipt, and everything on it, is a legally binding agreement between you and the retailer. Verizon likes to print all of the return policy stuff on there to avoid putting it in the contract (minus the over 14 day ETF charge), so if it isn't on there, they can't get away with it.

My sales receipt didnt have anything about returns on it. I asked because I was paranoid about the new Jan 9th return policy.

Depends on how you accquired the Rezound, if it was in person, then you could do that. If the same scenario happened w/ a new phone you recieved via mail. It has to make it's way back via snail mail and you get to wait in limbo til the return gets processed in their system. That's the downside if you're looking @ a week long web only period before stores launch. That's about as long as takes to get processed.

Corporate couldn't without informing via email, press release but they would have to inform you of it at the time of purchase. I could see an authorized retailer doing something shady like this, though. Even at that, one has to assume they'd have to make that policy change known in writing or receipt.
