Question about Samsung Trade-In Promotion

Hi all,

I wanted to get advice on people's opinion about the Samsung's current trade in promotion.

I currently have an s7 that works perfectly, but has a shattered glass back. Would it be worth it to repair the back first before trying for the $300 trade-in credit? I've heard horror stories online of situations where Samsung refused to take some phones for previous promotions and people got only $25, when the trade-in was refused.

Well, repairing the back would probably cost you over $100 - but I'm not sure on the back glass replacement pricing. I have just replaced a screen/digitizer on an Iphone 6SPlus - that was about $140.

I don't think you'll get $300 if it's damaged. Do you owe anything on it?

I don't owe anything on it! I was actually thinking of having a close friend of mine, who's good at this, repair it; so I wouldn't pay that much for it.

I'm just wondering if I replace the back, should I even bother trading it in, if it doesn't get accepted.

I've heard Samsung sometimes screw ppl over on little small things as far as trade in. Just FYI so u aware

If the screen is cracked, you may get $50-$100. If you repair it you should get $300.

getting my s7 replaced by asurion. trns out they are sending an s8! so $350 back! glad I canceled the first order. was about to settle for $100 bucks.

careful about non professional repairs-ie:not factory replaced. Samsung will be inspecting the phone. if the new glass is not spec, they may screw you. that's why I payed a little more for a replacement rather then onsite repair.

Any kind of non Samsung repair will 99% of the time get detected and will get the minimum if anything amount of money for trade in

If the phone is working flawlessly after you fix the back glass throw it on OfferUp or anyone of those close sale apps (even craigslist is a good option) and get cash instead

If you aren't comfortable meeting someone in person for a sale (I've done it plenty of times but the world has become a weird and scary place) you could also ebay it (but will have to pay fees)

These are just suggestions of course, you could handle it anyway you would like. Just be careful when selling to Samung because it is a Samsung phone they will know if it was tampered with or repaired from a non-samsung place/person

Swappa is a good option - a LOT of phones are sold on there and you can check out seller ratings and see comments similar to how you would on Ebay. I prefer Swappa myself. Good luck!

This is what I'm actually doing. Well selling my S7 Edge instead of trading it in. I'll actually be selling it for $425 so more than what Samsung would have given me!

I found a Groupon deal for 70% repair at a really good place (I prefer going to places with lots of good reviews), so the cost will be $18 instead

I'm leaning towards going for the t-mobile 50% off promotion. T-mobile is more lenient than Sammy with phone conditions, but I'll also be having one of the store reps inspect my phone before I trade it in. The $360 credit I get is definitely more than I'll get selling the phone myself.
