Question on unlocking with fingerprint

Although I like the fact that the scanner is on the back I realized that it isn't most convenient place when you would put the phone down on a table or desk next to you. That means you would have to pick up the phone to unlock it. I was wondering if there is any way to unlock it conventional way even with fingerprint unlock in place. I know you need to set up a backup pin or code, so is it possible to use that instead of fingerprint without having to fail the scanner for however many times it requires for certain situations?

yes, It makes you set a backup pin or pattern draw when you setup the fingerprint scanner. So when your phone is on the desk, just hit the power button, and slide up on the lock screen (like you would with stock Lollipop) to unlock. It'll ask for your pin (or pattern) and then you'll be in the phone!

I do love how the fingerprint scanner both wakes up and unlocks the phone in one motion! It works so fast! But if the phone is on the desk, just unlock like you would any stock lollipop device.

I would imagine that a trusted place or Bluetooth device would also let you skip unlocking your phone with a code or pattern.

I've been putting mine face down on things.. That way i hit the fingerprint as i pick it up and its ready to go as i flip it over.

Works for me, as I get notifications on my Moto 360 and don't need to see the screen - perhaps this is a secret plan to sell more android wear devices so people can do the same!

I'm not saying anyone who wants to use their phone while it's sitting on a desk is wrong, it's just (for me anyway) not an intuitive way to interact with a phone. By the time you faff about pressing the power button and swiping in an unlock pattern / enter an unlock code (assuming you're not in a trusted area) then you may as well just pick that sucker up and let your finger to the work for you. Just my two cents / penneth (if you're English).

Can anyone tell me if you can set two fingers to do the unlocking? For instance, I carry my phone in my left front pocket so I'd want my left index finger set to unlock it in that case. When I pick my phone up from my desk I use my right hand and would want to use my right index finger to unlock it.

You can program up to 5 fingers.
