I was wondering if it was even possible but is there a way to keep the phone's screen from turning on while in my pocket or faced down but allow it to turn the screen on while face up or not in pocket? I like the screen turning on while sitting at my desk at work but sometimes i unlock my phone when its in my pocket since I don't have any pin lock on my phone.

Yes you can use the app Tasker.
I don't use it for this particular task but it can be done.
The program is half the price of what it used to be, but it is an incredible program.
You get more options when you are rooted, but I went back to stock and it suites my purposes just fine.
There is someone on youtube who has a channel called Tasker Tuesdays.....check it out.
