Questions about the battery tab

Yes this does not bode well since I,too, will be swapping batteries out quite a bit. Thanks for pointing this out. I will be extra careful from this point on.

I am so glad I am not the only one who did this! LOL...maybe they should start packaging the getting started information that is on website with the phone!

Definitely not clear instructions, but so far, I am loving the phone!

lol I ripped both the main sticker (with esn) and the little black square one underneath of it out. I assumed like (some) that it was like the protective film and needed to be pulled, hence the "pull" on the label.
I stuck them to the inside of the box, so i just put them back in the phone when i read about this, they were still sticky, so it should be fine.

Not quote so funny...

I see a lot of "LOL" here, but has anyone called Verizon or Moto to inquire? Both have told my wife she's lost her warranty and her 30-day trial period before she's even turned the phone on.

Like many here, she followed the instructions on the phone to "PULL".

To her, the tab looked like the tabs you see in electronic devices that are shipped with a battery from the factory. The remote control for my Mac Mini had one of these, if I recall correctly. So have a couple other remote controls. You have to pull the tab out to get the device to work.

So for Motorola's poor product design, she's out the warranty on a brand-new $500 telephone. Hope nothing else goes wrong, right? Not so LOL now.

As for Verizon, it's like talking to a wall. I have no idea why VZW expends so much energy trying to chase away customers who buy its top-tier wireless service and top-end phone. Sprint's network sucked, but at least they were nice.

Yes. We have talked to Motorola. Yes. We have talked to Verizon. Yes. We have escalated. We're SOL for making an honest mistake Motorola could've reasonably predicted.

Honestly, how hard would it have been to print "PULL to remove battery" on the tab and the backing?

For the uninitiated, my picture here: The #droidX self-destruct tab - story here: http://bit.ly/aC0... on Twitpic

If there's a problem in the future don't bring it up? Or, just send it back throgh the mail. Once its back it'll be back and returned.

That's a warranty-voiding offense...

Everyone better hope the tab doesn't rip OR come off in any way - even under normal use - it VOIDS THE WARRANTY.

I tore the tab before ever using the phone, and have been fighting with Verizon and Motorola about this since I got the phone and unboxed yesterday.

I've been waiting for someone to post something like this. If you have two batteries like I will and swap them a lot, that tab is bound to come off at some point, even if you do it correctly.

That sounds easy enough, and it might work for some. However, when you ship in the phone they specify not to leave the battery in. So, any damage to the sticker/backing will be noticed pretty quickly. Especially for those that threw away the sticker. I don't think they'll fail to notice that.
