Questions about updating my phone!

My phone was rooted by a friend, that i have not been hable to get in contact with.
Every so often my phone a Evo keeps reminidimng me that there is an HTC software update. my question is can i update it ? will i loose my root?
Phone Specs:
Android Version 2.2.1
baseband version 2.15
build number 3.30.
the phone was rooted with z4 mod and unrevoked forever i believe

Welcome to the forum.

I've read somewhere that when you're rooted it's not "Recommended" to do a manual updates of such. I'm not sure if they(developers) have found a way around this.

I would suggest not doing anything at this time until you have more info on this.

The basic idea is do not accept Over the Air (OTA) updates if you are rooted, since the UTA update was not designed for rooted phones. It might work just fine or it might have a lot of issues.

NEVER do an ota on a rooted phone. There will be a rooted version for your updates.
